People in southern Maine will have a chance to be in the audience for a late-night talk show when “The Nite Show with Danny Cashman” holds a free live taping in Westbrook next month.
The variety show – modeled after shows hosted by David Letterman and Johnny Carson – is seen weekly on TV stations all over Maine but is usually filmed at the Gracie Theater in Bangor. On April 13, two episodes of the show will be filmed at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center, at Westbrook Middle School, beginning at 6 p.m. Audience members are asked to arrive by 5:45 p.m.
Scheduled guests at the April 13 taping include former Gov. John Baldacci, David Letterman’s longtime warm-up comic Eddie Brill, and singer-songwriter Paula Cole.
The show also filmed episodes in Westbrook last year.
“We had such a great time with a lot of local personalities creating a lot of fun moments,” Cashman said in a press release on the filming.
The Westbrook filming also gives southern Maine fans of the show a rare opportunity to see it live. The show, which has been on statewide for about seven years, is seen locally on two southern Maine stations on Saturday nights: WGME, a CBS affiliate, at 7:30 p.m., and WPFO, a Fox affiliate, at 10:30 p.m.
The show features Cashman as a Letterman-esque host, and includes a monologue, interviews, performances and comedy bits. The 30-minute show features a five-piece band as well. Tickets to the taping of the two episodes are free but must be obtained on the show’s website: theniteshowmaine.com/.
