BANGOR — Rowan Andrews hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining Saturday to give Bangor a 44-41 victory against Portland in a Class AA North girls’ basketball game.
Portland (9-4) entered the game ranked No. 1 in the class after defeating Cheverus on Friday night. Bangor (3-11) was ranked No. 8 in the eight-team division.
Davina Kabantu hit a 3-pointer for Portland with 20 seconds left to make it 41-41. On the inbound, Bangor beat a full-court press and Andrews connected on the winning shot on a fast break.
Shayla Eubanks led Portland with 14 points.
MT. VIEW 40, MARANACOOK 38: Shala Davis hit a layup with three seconds remaining to lift Mt. View (4-10) over Maranacook (2-12) at Readfield.
Andrea Crosby led the Mustang with 18 points. Davis finished with eight.
Anna Drillen led Maranacook with 15 points.
NOKOMIS 54, ERSKINE ACADEMY 34: Gabrielle Lord scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Warriors (9-6) over Erskine Academy (3-11) at Newport.
Maci Leali added 12 points for Nokomis. Chelsea Crockett chipped in 11.
Jordan Linscott led the Eagles with 21 points.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 65, WAYNFLETE 22: Jordan Grant had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Patriots (10-4), who took a 34-8 halftime lead and beat the Flyers (4-9) at Gray.
Brianna Jordan added 11 points for Gray-New Gloucester, which outscored the Flyers 14-1 in the second quarter.
Lydia Giguere scored seven points to lead Waynflete.
BONNY EAGLE 64, KENNEBUNK 27: After foul trouble in the first half, Mia Ferrante scored all of her game-high 17 points in the second, and Mackenzie Emery finished with 15 points as the Scots (11-3) downed the Rams (7-7) at Standish.
Emily Archibald had six points to lead Kennebunk.
EDWARD LITTLE 54, THORNTON ACADEMY 24: Hannah Chaput scored 13 points and the Red Eddies (9-5) forced 25 turnovers in a victory against the Golden Trojans (5-8) at Saco.
Piper Norcross added 12 points for Edward Little.
BRUNSWICK 66, MEDOMAK VALLEY 33: Sabrina Armstrong scored a game-high 17 points with seven steals and three assists, and Alexis Guptil had 11 points, six rebounds and six steals to lead the Dragons (14-0) past the Panthers (9-4) at Brunswick.
Lydia Simmons led Medomak with 10 points.
Rian Sachs of Brunswick scored seven points with 10 rebounds.
LEWISTON 44, MT. ARARAT 26: Victoria Harris scored nine points and Emily Strachan had six for the Blue Devils (6-8), who took a 31-10 halftime lead against the Eagles (3-11) at Lewiston.
Lauren Sturgess and Kyla Greenleaf each scored eight points, and Theresa Breed added five points and seven rebounds for Mt. Ararat.
SKOWHEGAN 71, BREWER 36: Annie Cooke scored a game-high 25 points and hauled in 14 rebounds to lead the Indians (11-3) over Brewer (7-7) at Skowhegan.
Sydney Reed added 14 points for Skowhegan and Sydney Ames chipped in 12.
Brewer was led by Rebecca Gideon with 10 points.
FREEPORT 59, CAPE ELIZABETH 40: After trailing by three points at halftime, the Falcons (12-2) used a 31-9 second-half advantage to pull away from the Capers (6-8) at Freeport.
Alexandra Goodman led Freeport with 16 points. Caroline Smith added 14.
Erin O’Rourke scored 13 points for Cape Elizabeth.
HOCKEY
CHEVERUS 9, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Abby Lamontagne had four goals and two assists as Cheverus/Kennebunk (14-1) rolled past Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland (8-7) at Portland.
Lamontagne scored three times in the opening 7:57 as Cheverus took a 6-0 lead in the first period. Mackenzie Cranna had two assists.
SCARBOROUGH 8, EDWARD LITTLE 1: Lucy Bogdanovich had two goals and three assists as the Red Storm (4-10-1) beat Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland (7-8-1) at Lewiston.
Lauren Topchick scored twice and Taylor Veilleaux had two assists for Scarborough, which led 5-0 after two periods.
Taylor Callier scored 4:46 into the third for Edward Little.
FALMOUTH 3, YORK 0: Stone Carmichael had a goal and an assist to lead the Yachtsmen (5-8-1) over York/Traip Academy (4-12) at Falmouth.
Kyla Gallup and Beatrice Johnson also scored.
Erin Gray stopped 21 shots for York. Julia Bonnvie had seven saves for Falmouth.
BIDDEFORD 6, MT. ARARAT 1: Kathleen Monson recorded a hat trick to lead Biddeford/Thornton Academy/Wells (9-5-1) over Mt. Ararat/Morse (2-14) at Biddeford.
Ailaina Keely, Paige Laverriere and Lily Stark also scored for Biddeford.
Maddie Young answered for Mt. Ararat.
VOLLEYBALL
AWARD: Molly Mawhinney of South Portland was named the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year.
A senior outside hitter, she led the Red Riots to their first Class A state final. Mawhinney had 181 kills and 66 aces.
