AUGUSTA — A local man reportedly was doused in the face with a pepper spray-like chemical after a neighbor grew frustrated with the loud noises the man was making last weekend while watching the Minnesota Vikings beat the New Orleans Saints in the NFL playoffs.

Augusta police summoned the neighbor, 61-year-old Nancy K. Burrill, after she allegedly sprayed the man in the face with a “chemical agent believed to be pepper spray,” said Lt. Chris Read, of the Augusta Police Department.

Burrill was charged with criminal use of disabling chemicals, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Police first went to 53 State St. around 11 p.m. Sunday, when the Vikings won their playoff game with a last-second, 61-yard touchdown.

After receiving a report of loud “yelling and screaming” coming from that residence, police officers found a “man who appeared to by very intoxicated and said he was sprayed in the face” with a chemical mix, Read said.

Three days later, officers returned and interviewed witnesses who live next door to the man.

According to Read, police determined that Burrill, who also lives near the man, “was very upset because he was being very boisterous while watching the Vikings and Saints game.

“When (she) confronted (him) about the noise, it apparently didn’t go well,” he said.
