An Augusta man will serve 10 years in federal prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.
Joshua Harrison, 35, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor by Judge John A. Woodcock Jr., U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank said in a press release. Harrison had pleaded guilty in December to the charge.
Law enforcement officers first learned in August 2015 that Harrison possessed child pornography in his email account. A search warrant was obtained for his home computer as well as for a second computer belonging to Harrison that was at a local pawnshop. Forensic examination of the laptop computers revealed multiple images of child porn, Frank said, citing court records.
“During the search of his residence, the defendant also admitted that he obtained child pornography by email and a messaging application and that he met people in online chat rooms to obtain child pornography,” Frank said in a statement.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, and the Augusta Police Department.
