HOCKEY
Winslow’s school board has voted in favor of merging its boys’ hockey team with Waterville, moving the possibility of a co-operative program between the two rivals a step closer to reality.
Waterville captured its second consecutive Class B state championship this winter with a 17-player roster that included eight seniors, but school officials are concerned that they might not have enough players to field a team next season.
Winslow finished last in Class B North with only 13 players on its roster, none of whom are seniors.
Waterville has won 22 state championships, including 20 in Class A before the school’s enrollment started to decline. Winslow has won 11 Class B championships – the most of any Maine school.
