Patrick Gagnon, 24, of Biddeford, has worked for the Saco Public Works Department for five years, a job he thoroughly enjoys, even though he occasionally has to endure bitterly cold days. He’s in the midst of Christmas tree pickups, which takes a week or two every January.
During this time of year, his job includes plenty of snow removal, (both shoveling and plowing) and once the weather warms, he’ll shift gears to paving, concrete, brick and sewer work, weed whacking, installing and removing signs and more.
Upbeat by nature, Gagnon says “the job is what you make it” so he keeps a positive and fun attitude. He enjoys training for new tasks, which keeps his job fresh. A full-time worker whose day begins at 7 a.m., Gagnon averages about $20 per hour.
