WATERVILLE — Jack O’Brien threw for 297 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Colby beat Hamilton 27-7 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference football game Saturday.
John Baron added a pair of field goals for Colby (2-3, 2-3 NESCAC).
The Mules defense opened the scoring when Patrick Yale returned a fumble 37 yards for a touchdown with 1:37 left in the first quarter. Jack Muntu-Caron forced the fumble.
After a 22-yard field goal by Baron, the Mules stretched their lead to 17-0 on a 6-yard TD pass from O’Brien to Ryder Arsenault with 1:35 left in the first half.
Hamilton (1-4, 1-4) responded with a 44-yard touchdown pass by Kenny Gray with 13 seconds left in the half, but Baron added his second field goal in the third quarter and O’Brien threw a 19-yard TD pass to Alex Kramer to finish the scoring for Colby.
HUSSON 42, ANNA MARIA 0: Cory Brandon completed 14 of 20 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns, and John Smith rushed for 231 yards and a touchdown as the Eagles (6-1, 4-0) cruised to a win over the Amcats (0-7, 0-4) in an ECFC game at Bangor.
Deon Wiggins caught five passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns, and Kadeem Edge added four catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles, who led 28-0 at halftime.
CURRY 42, MAINE MARITIME 41: Alex Corvese threw a 13-yard touchdown pass with 4:21 to play in regulation to give the Colonels (3-3, 1-3 New England Football Conference) the lead for good as they outlasted the Mariners (1-5, 0-4) in Milton, Massachusetts.
Corey Creegar rushed for 50 yards and four touchdowns for Maine Maritime.
TRINITY 38, BOWDOIN 7: Sonny Puzzo completed 10 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 22 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Bantams (5-0, 5-0) downed the Polar Bears (0-5, 0-5) in a NESCAC game at Brunswick.
Liam Ford caught seven passes for 84 yards for the Polar Bears, who were outgained 456-216 by the Bantams.
MIDDLEBURY 28, BATES 9: Jared Lebowitz completed 35 of 56 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers (5-0, 5-0) scored 28 unanswered points over the final three quarters to erase an early 9-0 deficit in a NESCAC win over the Bobcats (1-4, 1-4) at Middlebury, Vermont.
Bates opened the scoring 2:58 into the game when Mark Upton tackled running back Drew Jacobs in the end zone for a safety.
On the ensuing drive the Bobcats extended their lead to 9-0 on a 48-yard touchdown pass from Sandy Plashkes to Brian Daly with 8:49 left in the first quarter.
