BANGOR — A non-profit group in Bangor that works with homeless and at-risk children will receive about $140,000 from the federal government to support an outreach program.

The federal Administration for Children and Families is providing the money to support the Shaw House and its Street Outreach Program for homeless and runaway youths and their families.

Shaw House has been a resource for Maine families for a quarter of a century. Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King say the money will help Shaw House work toward family reunification and alternate living arrangements for the children it serves.

Shaw House serves youth from five rural Maine counties.
