A South Portland man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly threatening another driver with a machete during a road rage incident in Sabattus over the weekend.
Sabattus police arrested Carlos Genoves, 52, and charged him with aggravated assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and threatening display of a weapon.
Sabattus Police Chief Gary Baillargeon said the road rage incident started in Lewiston on Saturday, WCSH-TV reported. He said Genoves followed the victim to his home in Sabattus, where he held the blade of a machete to the man’s throat. The blade caused superficial injuries, but the victim did not need to be hospitalized.
Genoves fled the scene.
On Tuesday, Sabattus police obtained a search warrant and, working in conjunction with South Portland police detectives, arrested Genoves at his home on Westbrook Street around 1:30 p.m.
Genoves was being held Tuesday evening at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on $5,000 cash bail or $15,000 surety.
The investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed by the Androscoggin County District Attorney’s Office.
