Philip Earl Christy
SCARBOROUGH – Philip Earl Christy, 90, of Scarborough, passed peacefully on Dec. 3, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough.
He was born in Portland on Dec. 26, 1932, the son of Frederick and Simone (Michaud) Christy. He grew up in Portland working as a young boy delivering groceries and went on to work for Federal Foods for 20 years. In his later years, he worked for Nichols and Sears.
He also served 16 years in the Maine National Guard. Philip was an active and long-standing member of the Scarborough Seniors Program Advisory Board until his death.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Alvina (Beckwith) Christy; and siblings Richard, Betty, and Marion.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Maloney of Gorham, his three sons and their wives, Steve and Pam Christy of Bridgton, Tim and Cheryl Christy of Buxton, and Bob and Lil Christy of Scarborough; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as one brother, William Christy, from Delaware.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland, on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Service is at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow. Burial will be in the spring at Black Point Cemetery in Scarborough.
