Maureen K. Conlon-Peirce

SANFORD – Maureen K. Conlon-Peirce, of Sanford died on Nov. 7, 2023. The beloved wife of the late John Branscomb Peirce, Maureen was the daughter of Catherine O’Connor Conlon and Thomas Patrick Conlon late of Lowell, Mass.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the recipient of a master’s degree from City College of New York, she had a lifelong career as an educator and administrator in public, private, and college settings in Massachusetts, Maine, New York, Hawaii and in the Oversees Dependent Schools Systems in Germany and England.

After her retirement from the Kennebunk schools, Maureen involved herself in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (O.L.L.I.) at the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine facilitating its first Fine Arts Exhibits and beginning the ongoing Open Studio for O.L.L.I. artists. She was a student throughout her life.

John introduced her to the joys of the Golden Retriever and after raising Jason of the Golden Fleece, together, and singly, she lived with Damien, Lady B., Gizmo, Dusty, Ginger, and Mazie B. – the final Rescue Golden.

A friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob, Maureen began a new life in recovery on Feb. 12, 1974, and actively pursued daily readings and meditation.

Her beloved Quarter Horse, Zippy, assisted her weekly to focus, balance, and coordinate her body, spirit, and mind.

She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Patrick Conlon of Lowell, Mass., a sister, Dr. Therese D’Abre of South Dennis, Mass.; and Mazie B and other Goldens.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Dorothy Trickett Conlon of New Hampshire; nieces Kathleen D’Abre, Lisa D’Abre Corcoran, Nancy Pierce, Christine Ryan, Maureen Daly, Dee Maloney, and Susan Van Name, nephews Thomas P. Conlon III, James Conlon, and Edgar R. D’Abre III; great-nieces Rachael D’Abre, Kaleigh Ryan, Shannon Ryan, Brooke Daly, Kate Daly, Emily Maloney, Charlotte Maloney, and Meghan Conlon, great-nephews William Van Name, William Dyke, Warren Edgar, Sean Ryan, Jack Corcoran, and Sean Conlon; great-grandnieces Claira and Margot Conlon, Brookeland Van Name and Finnley Ryan, great-grandnephews Kai Hatanak and Hugh Van Name.

A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., Springvale.
