A few months ago, I asked Sen. Susan Collins, using her online contact page, what she will do about Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s hold on approving military promotions reflecting his objection to using funds to transport military personnel from where abortion is not permitted to states where abortion remains legal. Sen. Collins did not indicate that she would take any meaningful action.
“This unprecedented hold on our servicemembers’ promotions not only jeopardizes U.S. national security, but affects the lives and careers of hundreds of service members and their families,” read the senator’s reply. “… Rest assured I will continue to monitor this issue closely … [C]onfirming military leadership in a timely manner is critical to making sure the United States military remains second to none.”
