Lillian Mae Spiller
GORHAM – Lillian Mae Spiller, 97, of Gorham, passed away on Oct. 18, 2023. She was born on Aug. 12, 1926 in Milton, Nova Scotia, Canada to Alta Faye Ford and Rex Hartlen. She lived in Nova Scotia until she moved to Maine in 1955.
She was known for being the neighborhood mom and “nan” to everyone. Lillian was a long-time member of the North Street Methodist Church and Ladies Aid. She loved gardening and spending time with her family and friends, especially on Saturday nights for beans and hotdogs and card games. She enjoyed knitting, crochet and bowling and could still hit 100 when she was 80 years old.
Lillian leaves behind a large family, including her siblings Belinda Sicard of Ontario, Carl Hartlen of Quebec, Virginia Randall Brown of New Hampshire; children, Susan Darby Ingalls of Portland, son, Michael Darby and his wife Brenda of Lebanon, Ore., daughter, Sherry Spiller of Standish and son, Kenneth A. Spiller and his wife Lisa of Gorham. Lillian was blessed with 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Lillian had deep and far-reaching extended family and friends.
Lillian was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Darby, her husband Alvin Spiller; her brothers Donald Hartlen and Richard Randall, sister, Carlotta Randall Casale; and her son, Thomas Darby.
There will be visiting hours at Dolby Blais and Segee, 434 River Rd., Windham, Monday Oct. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m., prior to the service at 1 p.m. There will be a celebration following, location to be announced.
