HOCKEY
Justin Ducharme scored with 2:54 remaining and Matthew Ducharme added a goal with 1:10 to play Friday night, giving the Trois-Rivieres Lions a 4-2 victory against the visiting Maine Mariners in a season-opening ECHL hockey game.
Alex-Olivier Voyer and Jzakov Novak also scored for the Lions. Reid Stefanson had both goals for the Mariners, one in the second period and another in the third, and both tying the game.
The Mariners held a 35-34 advantage in shots on goal.
COLLEGES
MICHIGAN: The school announced it has suspended a low-level football program employee a day after disclosing it is under NCAA investigation for allegedly stealing the play-calling signals used by Wolverines opponents.
Athletic Director Warde Manuel issued a one-sentence statement saying that analytics assistant Connor Stalions had been suspended with pay pending the conclusion of the investigation. Stalions had not been previously identified by the school, but was named in an ESPN report alleging he is a key figure in the probe.
BAYLOR: A U.S. District Judge dismissed former Baylor football coach Art Briles and former athletic direcor Ian McCaw from a federal Title IX lawsuit, ruling no reasonable jury could find them negligent in the domestic violence assaults of a former Baylor student by a former Baylor football player.
McCaw worked in a variety of athletic administrative posts at the University of Maine from 1986-92.
RUGBY
WORLD CUP: New Zealand bulldozed through Argentina 44-6 at Paris to reach the final for a record fifth time.
The All Blacks will bid for a record fourth title against defending champion South Africa or England, who play their semifinal Saturday.
SOCCER
PREMIER LEAGUE: Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams, the U.S. captain, is expected to miss at least three months after a second surgery for a hamstring problem that has limited him to one game since March.
Adams, 24, hurt the hamstring March 11 in training after Leeds’ match against Brighton, then had surgery.
CANADA WOMEN: Christine Sinclair, 40, the top goal-scorer in international soccer, announced she will retire from the national team at the end of this season.
Sinclair has 190 international goals, most among both men and women, since making her debut with the national team in 2000.
GOLF
PGA: Beau Hossler shot a 5-under 65 to grab a one-shot lead after the second round of the Zozo Championship at Inzai City, Japan.
Hossler was one stroke ahead of fellow American Justin Suh, who shot a 4-under 66, and two in front of Satoshi Kodaira of Japan, who shot 68. Four more were three back, including Americans Eric Cole and Xander Schauffele.
LPGA: Minjee Lee overcame swirling winds to shoot a 3-under 69 and take a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the South Korea tournament at Seoul.
EUROPEAN: Defending champion Adrián Otaegui of Spain was in a three-way tie with Louis de Jager of South Africa and Jeong weon Ko of France for the halfway lead at the Andalucia Masters after shooting 3-under 69 in the second round at San Roque, Spain.
