‘Paint Night’

When six women participate in a paint and sip night/bridal shower, there’s no shortage of laughs, but also plenty of poignant moments. “Paint Night” delves into motherhood, womanhood, and how unexpected curveballs can cause huge heartache and struggle. These ladies have each others’ backs, even when things get dark and comfort zone walls crumble. Catch a postshow discussion with playwright Carey Krim following the Saturday matinee performance.
‘The Lion in Winter’

Portland Shakespeare Company presents a comedy by James Goldman that was penned in the mid-’60s and takes place in the late 1100s. “The Lion in Winter” is set at Christmastime, when King Henry II hosts a holiday feast for the new king of France. He and his family need to be on their best behavior, but much family drama ensues. The show features music composed and performed by Amos Fichera-Bruni, who will play original, medieval period-inspired tunes.
Fall Fun Weekend

Maine Wildlife Park presents a fun weekend packed with autumn- and wildlife-themed lawn games; a parkwide scavenger hunt; presentations about bats, owls and other creatures of the night; and, of course, up-close and personal looks at many animals. As you explore the grounds, be sure to say hello to moose, deer, bear, lynx, cougars, porcupines, bobcats, coyote, foxes, eagles, owls, hawks, turtles and several other wonderful residents.
Wicked vs. Good Maine Roller Derby Bout

If you’ve never been to a roller derby bout, you’ve been missing out on some serious thrills, athleticism and high-energy fun. Head to Happy Wheels Skate Center for a guaranteed good time Saturday. The Wicked vs. Good bout will have Maine Roller Derby skaters from Team Seagull and Team French Fry, and it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge victorious when the final whistle is blown. Hit the Happy Wheels snack bar for all sorts of treats, like popcorn, pizza and pretzels.
