Tracey L. Erickson
NEWPORT – Tracey Lynn Erickson, 59, lost her long and courageous battle against cancer on Oct. 5, 2023.
Tracey was born in Southington, Conn., on Feb. 1, 1964 to Ronald and Judy (Grant) Merithew. She graduated from Searsport High School in 1982.
Tracey began her career in public safety in Bucksport in 1989 as a dispatcher and continued until September of 2023 at Penobscot Regional Communications Center as a quality assurance and training supervisor. Tracey continued working even after her initial diagnosis of cancer in November 2020. Her commitment and passion for emergency telecommunications was exemplary. She was heartbroken when this terrible disease forced her to stop working in the career that she loved.
Throughout her life her family was her priority. She also loved gardening, hummingbirds, butterflies and flowers. Her family was always welcome into her home regardless of the time of day. She would always stop whatever she was doing to take care of them. She will always be in our hearts. Tracey was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
Tracey was predeceased by her mother, Judy, her father, Ronald; numerous aunts, uncles; and her stepson, Damian.
She is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Charles; her stepfather, Cecil of Searsport; her children, Heather of Fairfield, Brian of Penobscot and Sean of Newport, her stepchildren, Charles, Jr. of Bradford and Dominic of Hermon; her brothers and sister, Ron and wife Vicki, Harold and wife Caitlin, and Melissa, all of Searsport; her grandchildren, Cameron, Lexie, Carson, Charles, III and Declan; her stepbrothers and stepsisters Lorianne and Danny, Kevin, Rebecca and Win, Jeffrey and Bobbie, Coleene and Lou; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom she adored.
Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, at Crosby and Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday with Deacon Tom Gilbert and Pastor Scott Taylor officiating.
