Autumn and Ales Race Autumn & Ales

The Autumn & Ales event, featuring a 5k, 10k, half marathon, and a kid’s fun run, will take place Oct. 21, it was rescheduled from an earlier date following the disruptions caused by Hurricane Lee in September. The route begins and ends at the American Legion, and it will be on the Scarborough Marsh off road section of the Eastern Trail in Scarborough. Mend Health and Wellness of Maine organizes this race every year.

The race organizers say they are thrilled to bring back Scarborough’s sole half marathon event and have seen an impressive response with 400 registered runners. Dr. Tracey and Dr. Victor St. John, co-organizers, are the masterminds behind Autumn & Ales. They expressed their excitement, stating, “As of this morning, we have 400 runners registered for the race! We have a great group of sponsors, race organizers, and a supportive community helping us raise funds for our three nonprofit beneficiaries.”

With the race proving increasingly popular and attracting over 400 participants, the organizers are urgently seeking volunteers. Those interested in lending a hand can sign up on the event’s website.

Nonesuch River Brewing will set up a beer tent at the finish line.

In the spirit of giving back, the event will also collect socks for Project G.R.A.C.E., with sock donation bins available at bib pickup on Oct. 20 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mend Health, 560 US Route One, Scarborough) and during packet pickup on Oct. 21, located at The American Legion Post under the registration tent.

For those looking to register on the day of the event, registration and check-in will commence at 6:30 a.m. and conclude at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. Participants are advised to arrive for sign-in at least an hour before their race start time.

Online registration will remain open until midnight on Oct. 20. Those who registered after Sept. 1 are not guaranteed a race t-shirt or a finisher medal due to increased costs and shipping delays.

Autumn & Ales is a tobacco-free event and will take place rain or shine. Dogs are not allowed on the trail, but jogging strollers are welcome.

The race is set in picturesque, wooded trails, paths, and views of the marsh. It caters to both runners and walkers.

By joining Autumn & Ales, runners will contribute to three local nonprofit organizations: The Scarborough Land Trust, Holy Cross School, and Project G.R.A.C.E. So far, the event has raised over $25,000 in registrations, in-kind donations, and sponsorships from local businesses.

Ticket Prices: 5k $40 – 10k – $50 – /1⁄2 Marathon $65; Kid’s Fun Run $15.

Parking is on Washington Road off of Mason Libby Road, or on Mason Libby Road which is .25 mile away from the entrance of the race. Someone will be directing traffic. The organizers ask attendees to try to plan to use the bathroom beforehand. There will be porta potties as well as the American Legion bathrooms to use as needed at the Start/Finish line only.

“We are really excited to offer a 1/2 marathon 10k 5k & Kid’s Fun Run (so many options) that is specific to Scarborough. Autumn & Ales focuses on supporting local nonprofits, and seeks out sponsors who work live and play here in town. Tracey & I hope to grow the race even more in 2024! See you all next Saturday — we need volunteers and are also doing a sock drive for Project G.R.A.C.E.” said Amber Hoxha, Divine Timing LLC, marketing consultant and co-race organizer and race communications contact.
