BIDDEFORD — Georgette Mabel Hamel, 93, of Biddeford, passed away surrounded by her family late Monday evening on Oct. 2, 2023, at home.
She was born in Biddeford on Oct. 3, 1929, a daughter of Phillerom and Corrine (Thibeault) Descoteaux. She was educated from Biddeford schools.
On Oct. 22, 1949, she married her husband William Urbain Hamel at St. Andre Church and the couple settled in Biddeford. She was a lifelong parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish.
Georgette was from the generation of hard work, employed by Pepperell Manufacturing until 1953. She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family. Once the children were out of school, she went back to work for Lyn-flex Industries in Saco. She later retired from Fiber Materials after many years of service.
She was a member of the Senior Citizen Group, the 50 Plus Club, where she enjoyed activities and taking bus trips. One of her favorite trips was a clambake on Campobello Island. Many special memories were made traveling with her family to Florida, Hawaii and other destinations.
When time permitted, she enjoyed going to garage sales and making rosaries.
She was predeceased by her husband William Urbain Hamel in 1980, by one grandson Timothy Locke, and by two brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by four children, Ronald Hamel and wife Donna, Judy A. Gonneville and husband Andy, Cathy Dubois and husband Roland, and Denise Caouette. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Tina, Scott, Billy, Joey, Kelly, David, Chrissy, and Michael, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. with a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
