When it comes to homeschooling, there are numerous paths to choose from, and finding the right one for your family can be a daunting task. That’s where Maria Galyean, an independent educator and homeschool consultant in Scarborough, steps in to guide and empower families in their homeschooling journey. With her expertise and personalized support, she says her goal is to bring joy and fulfillment to homeschooling families in Maine and beyond.
Galyean’s journey into the world of homeschooling support began during her undergraduate years when she pursued a bachelor’s degree in child and youth studies at Florida Gulf Coast University. She says this initial step laid the foundation for her career as an early childhood educator, followed by her role as a nanny.
However, her educational journey didn’t stop there. After completing her Master of Leadership Studies degree at The University of Maine, her focus shifted toward advocating for medical freedoms and rights for students in Maine. “I founded The Homeschool Admin in 2021 as infringements on family and student rights continued on a national level from 2019 onward. I decided to answer the calls from my local community to offer my education and experience as a service for homeschooling families. When I put my gifts together with my values it was an easy call to answer; upon marrying my backgrounds in leadership, education, and child and youth development I came to find my true north,” Galyean said. Along this path, she has served both new and veteran homeschooling families, assisting them in optimizing their homeschooling experience and creating a harmonious rhythm for both learners and parents.
When asked about the response from her community, Galyean said that she heard the need for her services expressed in various ways, driving her to refine her offerings into the comprehensive support system she provides today. “I have been overwhelmingly welcomed, as many homeschool families are looking for administrative and strategic support to ensure they are successfully starting or continuing on their homeschool journey,” She said.More than 50% of her clients are families who have already been homeschooling but seek to refresh and recalibrate their approach, ensuring the best possible educational experience for their children, she said.
Galyean said her services cater to homeschooling parents and learners, helping them establish a solid foundation and vision for their homeschooling journey based on their family values, goals, and objectives. Her services are offered both virtually and in person. “Using my signature strategy sessions, I empower learners and parents alike to overcome doubts they have about being able to pursue homeschooling happily,” Galyean said. Through interactive discussions and reflective activities, she tailors curriculum recommendations and schedules to suit each family’s unique needs, making personalized learning a top priority.
Services offered include a clarity call, kickstart workshops, My Homeschool Admin Membership, and the Homeschool Admin’s enrichment experience, which is a structured series of five weekly enrichment offerings for homeschoolers aged 6-12, focusing on hands-on, mixed ages learning projects and fostering a sense of community. The Clarity Call is a 90-minute consultation to provide guidance on various aspects of homeschooling. The Kickstart workshops are two 90-minute strategy sessions for families. The My Homeschool Admin Membership includes the workshops, end of year sessions and support via email, text, and voice message.
Testimonials included parents saying they have gained confidence in their choice to homeschool their children. Galyean also helps homeschool parents choose curriculum that will prepare the child to return to public school in the future. More information can be found on the website, www.thehomeschooladmin.com
