My wife and I have been celebrating our 30th anniversary, driving from Boston to Bar Harbor. Spectacular, sadly with the exception of your city; we planned for two nights, leaving after one.
I worked in government my entire career, so I appreciate the challenges. I also appreciate that it is no crime to be homeless. However, the saturation of the city with unsheltered individuals has left it feeling unsafe. We stayed at the Westin and walked to Portland Pier. The number of times I perceived my wife and I to be unsafe was alarming.
I’m confident that nothing I have shared comes as a surprise but feel compelled to share that Portland has become a place that I’ll tell others needs to be avoided.
