Take a walk in Pondicherry Park
Join Loon Echo Land Trust for a lunchtime walk in Pondicherry Park from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10. This is a great time of year to take a break and get outdoors in this park in the heart of Bridgton.
Interested walkers should meet at the Bob Dunning Bridge and the walk will begin from there. In case of inclement weather, the walk may be canceled. Visit lelt.org or check the Loon Echo Facebook page at facebook.com/loonecho for updates.
Heating assistance applications open
Applications for the state’s Home Energy Assistance Program are now open to support community members through the approaching cold weather.
Applicants can schedule an appointment for Wednesday, Oct. 11, to apply for benefits by calling 647-3116. Several documents are required, including a photo ID, recent electric, water and fuel bills, and proof of income. The appointments will be scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Community Center on Depot Street.
Apple picking and gourds galore
Pick your own apples, pumpkins and squash at Five Fields Farm in South Bridgton. The farm stand also offers pies and apple cider.
The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Five Fields Farm is located at 720 South Bridgton Road, or Route 107.

Rotary promotes childhood literacy
Hilary and Chuck Wilcoxen of Team Long Run, an organization that promotes early childhood literacy and learning in schools and for families facing challenges, gave a presentation at the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club meeting Sept. 28.
The Bridgton Rotary Club and Bridgton Congregational Church has started a literacy project with the local Head Start, inspired by Team Long Run and in conjunction with Bridgton Books.
