Final Legion ride of the season

American Legion Riders of Post 62 has its final ride of the season scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, starting at the post at 15 Lewiston Road.

Riders will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. then head out at 9. The group stops for lunch at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post at 600 Cottage St. in Littleton, New Hampshire. The menu is pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni and potato salad and drinks. Sign up at the canteen or by emailing Richard Flynn at richard_flynn@comcast.net.

In case of poor weather, the ride will take place Sunday, Oct. 1.

Afterschool at the library

Students in grades 5-12 in the Gray-New Gloucester school district are invited to celebrate finishing the first month of school with a social at the Gray Public Library at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. Entertainment will include videos, music, games and snacks.

The library also has activities planned for early release days in the school district through December. Coming up next is a movie day Oct. 18. Contact graylib@graymaine.org or 657-4110 for the full schedule.

Bird biologists at the park

Bird enthusiasts are invited to Maine Wildlife Park Oct. 7 for a variety of presentations hosted by Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife biologists, as well as a bird drawing class.

The action begins at 10 a.m. with a discussion about great blue herons, followed by a book reading on the herons at 10:30 a.m. Then at 11 a.m., Wildlife Park staff will lead a bird drawing class. At noon, a biologist will host a presentation about eagles. At 12:30 p.m., learn about birds of prey, songbirds at 1 p.m. and shorebirds at 3 p.m.
