I came across Bobbi Cope’s letter to the editor of Sept. 26 (“Linnell’s qualities will enrich Portland City Council”) and was genuinely surprised to learn about Bill Linnell’s candidacy for Portland’s city councilor-at-large position. My initial attempt at a Google search yielded no additional articles from the Portland Press Herald regarding this local race. Upon further research, I learned from other publications that three council seats in Portland are up for election this year.

Considering the significance of the City Council’s role, I find it surprising that we haven’t witnessed more extensive coverage of these elections. Given the little formal power of Portland’s mayor, I believe that these council races are equally vital in shaping the future of Maine’s biggest city.

Here’s to hoping that we will see more comprehensive coverage in the upcoming weeks.
