The city of South Portland is hosting multiple events this October to give community members an opportunity to weigh in on the development of the city’s new Comprehensive Plan (Comp Plan). The Comp Plan is the guiding document that will shape the city’s planning and policies over the next 15 years, which is why it’s important that all community members who live, work, and enjoy spending time in South Portland, share their vision for the city’s future.
*Oct. 3, 5 to 7 p.m.: Our Transportation Future – Public Forum on the development of South Portland’s Street Design Manual and community vision and goals. Municipal Services Facility, 929 Highland Ave., South Portland.
The Bike-Pedestrian Committee and city staff are developing a manual with Toole Design that will shape the nature of our roads for years to come. Attendees will get a first look at and an opportunity to provide feedback on the Comp Plan vision statement. The forum will be held in the Municipal Services Facility Main Conference Room.
*Oct. 4, Session I, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Session II, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Public Forum on Cash Corner and Fore River waterfront planning. Cash Corner Fire Station, 360 Main St., South Portland.
This public forum, hosted by the Comprehensive Plan Committee and city staff will gather input on infrastructure and redevelopment issues and opportunities within the two Brownfield Grant target areas of Cash Corner and the Fore River waterfront.
The forum includes a presentation on the target areas and an opportunity for community members to share input. The city will build off of the information it gathers from these sessions to conduct a targeted infrastructure and economic analysis of key sites within the Brownfield area. Both sessions will be identical and attendees may join whichever is most convenient for them. Participants should park in the fire station’s rear lot or on Skilling Street and use the conference room entrance in the rear of the building.
*Oct. 18, 6 to 8:30 p.m.: Comprehensive Plan open house, South Portland High School Cafeteria, 637 Highland Ave.
If you’re new to comprehensive plans, learn more about what a Comprehensive Plan is, how it is made, and provide feedback on the draft bision and goals that have been developed based on community input at this open house. The drop-in style event will take place at the South Portland High School cafeteria. While not required to attend the events, registration is strongly encouraged.
