James W. Mattison

SCARBOROUGH – James W. Mattison, 96, of Maine Avenue, Portland, passed away at Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough on Friday Sept. 22, 2023, following a long battle with dementia.

James (Jim) was born in Rumford. He was the son of Forrest Parke and Grace Grondin Mattison. He graduated from Stephen’s High School class of 1946. He served in World War II.

On Oct. 20, 1978 he married Linda L. Norris in Portland. They shared 45 years together. Jim was a member of the Amvets, Elks, American Legion and a life member of the VFW. He started his work career at Rumford Power and Light, then transferred to Central Maine Power, in Portland. He worked more than 42 years in the profession. He retired in 1989. He enjoyed road travel, cruising and most of all, his family.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, his sister Patricia Greene, and his son Robert Mattison.

He is survived by his wife Linda Mattison of Portland, son Timothy wife Lalaine of Ohio, daughter Cindy husband Albert Kelly of Lincoln, daughter Coleen husband Patrick Greene of California, stepson Joseph Charlton of Florida, stepdaughter Pamela husband James Bonnvie of South Portland, and daughter-in-law Teresa Norton Mattison. Jim also had 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, from 4-7 p.m., at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 29, at 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery South Portland.
