Mid-Week Music continues Wednesday, Oct. 25, with Words & Music by James Marshall Hendrix. The monthly concert series is held at the Kennebunkport Historical Society’s Town House School at 135 North St. The show begins at 7 p.m.

“Obviously he was a force of nature on guitar, but I always felt that his songwriting prowess never got the appreciation it deserved,” said Ed Williamson of Jimi Hendrix. “His songs are so pure and timeless.”

To that end, Mark Gunter (keyboards, vocal), John Kumnick (bass), Dylan Kumnick (drums), and Dana Pearson (guitar, vocal) will perform an evening of solidly written Hendrix tunes, including “Crosstown Traffic,” “Castles Made of Sand,” and “House Burning Down.”

Schroeder joins Benefits & Beyond as workforce development instructor

Historical society hosts bean supper

The Arundel Historical Society will host a baked bean and pasta supper on Oct. 14. It will be held at the Mildred L. Day School gymnasium from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Mildred L. Day School is located on the Limerick Road in Arundel.

The menu will include two types of baked beans, mac and cheese, American chop suey, hot dogs, coleslaw, cornbread/rolls, drinks and coffee and homemade desserts. Takeout is available. Suggested donations are: adults, $10; children 6-10 years,-$5 and children younger than 5 eat free.

The supper will feature historical displays, membership info, raffle calendars and merchandise. Proceeds benefit the Arundel Historical Society and all are welcome for the family-friendly evening.

Fishermen’s association will visit 3 Seas Fish and Lobster

The New England Fishermen’s Stewardship Association will visit 3 Seas Fish and Lobster in Kennebunkport 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Fishermen and community members are invited to visit 3 Seas on Sept. 30 to learn more about the nonprofit organization’s mission and work, meet local commercial fishermen and seafood harvesters, and sample fresh local seafood from 3 Seas.

3 Seas Fish and Lobster is located at 130 Main St. in Kennebunkport.

New England Fishermen’s Stewardship Association merchandise including shirts, hats, decals and flags will be available for purchase. Participants can enter a free raffle to win a F/V Nor’easter gift basket.

League of Maine Craft Show visits Wells

The annual League of Maine Craft Show is scheduled for  Oct. 7-8 in Wells. Known for its three shows, Summer Solstice/League Of Maine July, September, and November shows, the organization added a fourth show. The two-day event will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wells Junior High School on Route 1 (1470 Post Road) in Wells.

The juried craft show features crafters and artists who display their handmade wares featuring traditional, contemporary and country crafts. Patrons will see stained glass, jewelry of all types, pottery, soaps, clothing, wood crafts, fiber arts, graphics, photography, handcrafted specialty foods and more. Artisans from all over New England are featured at the pre-holiday show. A sampling of the crafters and artists:

Public invited to education forum

A community forum on issues facing public education will be held Thursday, Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brick Store Museum Program Center in Kennebunk.

Presenters will discuss issues impacting students, teacher retention, and ways to increase community involvement in schools. Panel members will take questions from the audience. The panel will be moderated by Sen. Joe Rafferty (Senate District 34), who serves as the Senate chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. He will be joined by RSU 21 Superintendent Dr. Terri Cooper, along with another guest speaker to be announced. The forum is sponsored by the Democrats of the Kennebunks and Arundel as a nonpartisan, community-wide event. There is no charge.

First Congregational schedules last two suppers of the season

First Congregational Church is hosting its monthly baked bean and American chop suey supper on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the church, 141 North St., Kennebunkport. The last First Church bean supper of 2023 will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The suppers feature two types of home baked beans, American Chop Suey, hot dogs, rolls, and coleslaw, topped off with a slice of homemade pie. Exact change is required: adults and children age 12 and older, $10 per person; children younger than 12, $5 per child.

Graves Library announces October events

Local author Jocelyn Lacey will visit Graves Memorial Library on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 3:15 p.m. to read from her book, “Coral’s First Sleepover,” in the Community Room. Lacey’s other books are, “An Angel Named Johnia,” “What Do Police Officers Do?” and “Pierre the Peacock.”

Copies of “Coral’s First Sleepover” will be available for purchase and signing. The event will include a special mermaid craft. Additional parking is available at the Village Fire Station on North Street.

Oh, My Gourd!: The library’s gourd-decorating contest is back. Visit Graves Library, select a gourd, take it home, and transform it into a favorite book character. Bring it back to the library to go on display. Gourds will be available starting Oct. 3 with prizes awarded by Halloween.

Climate Action: The Climate Action Task Force invites patrons to a discussion at Graves Library on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m.. Join the conversation and express views of the town relating to climate change. Light refreshments will be served.

Blue Zones: Community screening, and discussion of Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones is scheduled for Oct. 4 – Nov. 2. View and discuss a four-part documentary featuring Dan Buettner as he discovers five communities where people live long lives. Buettner is an explorer and best-selling author who has studied Blue Zones for 20 years. The documentary features five regions across the globe with the highest number of centenarians or people who live to 100.

HarvestFest book sale planned at Kennebunk Free Library

The Friends of the Kennebunk Free Library will have a book sale on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in conjunction with Kennebunk’s HarvestFest. The sale will be held in Hank’s Room and outside (weather permitting).

Friends support the library by raising funds that help sponsor library programs and materials including passes to local museums and parks, summer reading programs, Kanopy streaming service, OverDrive e-content, and large print books.
