Five cousins raised close to $700 at their North Yarmouth lemonade stand this summer to benefit Maine Needs.

It’s the second lemonade stand fundraiser for Silas and Simone Dostilio and Lincoln, Isla and Evan Werrell, who donated about $400 to the community donation center last summer. This year, when the cousins heard that children in need often don’t have enough underwear, they set up shop again.
Their sales and donations allowed them to buy 431 pairs of underwear, which they have delivered to Maine Needs.
The stand received support from near and far, said the Werrells’ mother, Leda.
“It was such a humbling and sweet outpouring of community to help support Mainers,” she said.
The lemonade stand fosters kindness and humanity in the North Yarmouth community, the Dostilios’ mother, Alicia, told The Forecaster, and it teaches the kids to think beyond themselves.
“For my husband and I, when we had children, the ultimate goal is that they become a good person and they take care of those in their community,” she said. “We are so grateful to the community for helping the kids.”
More fundraising efforts may be forthcoming from the cousins, who range in age from 7 to 15. When they made their recent underwear delivery to Maine Needs in Portland, they were invited to take a tour.
“They noticed that there were less of different sized shoes, and they were coming up with ideas on how to get companies to maybe donate sizes that are not common,” Alicia Dostilio said.
