Lizzie Frattaroli scored two second-half goals as the University of New England women’s soccer team beat St. Joseph’s College 5-1 in the season opener for both teams on Friday in Standish.
Tori Keyes scored in the first half for the Nor’easters. Frattaroli and Emily Martin made it 3-0, before Tatum Hancock scored for St. Joseph’s. Frattaroli scored again and Ashley Clark added a goal for UNE.
Sydney Gillingham made two saves for UNE, sharing time with Anna Flaherty and Ariel Martin. Carly Downey had five saves for St. Joseph’s.
SOUTHERN MAINE 4, MARIAN 0: Catriona Gould scored in each half as the Huskies opened their season with a victory in Gorham.
Emma Bosworth and Riley Reitchel were the other goal scorers. Mia Sargent and Eliza Roy were each credited with an assist.

SOUTHERN MAINE 3, NICHOLS 2: Cole Johnson scored an unassisted goal to break a scoreless tie 10:12 into the contest as the Huskies rolled out to a 3-0 lead and defeated the Bison in a mutual opener in Gorham.
Noah Perry scored in the 59th minute for Southern Maine and Yahya Altaie added a goal in the 69th, both set up by Jack Brady.
Ethan Knowles and Ethan Gosper both scored late in the second half for Nichols.
BABSON 1, ST. JOSEPH’S 0: A goal by Liam Rhatigan late in the first half was enough for the Beavers to earn a season-opening win over the Monks in Babson Park, Massachusetts.
Monks keeper Liam Foley made one save.
MMA 2, UNE 1: Gabriel Toledo scored in the second half to lift the Mariners to an opening win over the Nor’easters in Biddeford.
Hunter Crea scored in the first half to give MMA the lead before Luke Gould tied it for UNE.
FIELD HOCKEY
BOSTON UNIVERSITY 3, MAINE 2: Amalia Preece scored 7:42 into overtime to give the Terriers (1-1) a comeback win over the Black Bears (1-2) in Orono.
Maine grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third quarter on goals by Mallory Mackesy and Saylor Kuefler less than two minutes apart, but Alex Purcell tied it late in the third.
MIT 5, UNE 0: Ingrid Tomovski scored two goals and set up another as the Engineers won a season opener in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
HUSSON 5, ST. JOSEPH’S 0: Teagan Blackie scored two goals as the Eagles beat the Monks in the opener for both teams in Bangor.
Phoebe Carlock, Allison Drew and Julia Murch also scored for Husson. Kassidy Collins had five saves for St. Joseph’s.
SOUTHERN MAINE 3, THOMAS 1: Brooke Carson, Sage Drinkwater and Abigail Chartier each scored as the Huskies beat the Terriers in the opener for both teams in Gorham.
Kayci Faulkingham scored in the first quarter to give Thomas a 1-0 lead.
