The 26th annual Scarborough Summerfest takes place Aug. 18 at the Clifford Mitchell Sports Complex near the high school. The event is organized by Scarborough Community Services and begins at 5 p.m.
Summerfest is a family-friendly event that includes food, entertainment, activities, and more. The celebration began in 1997 as a fundraising event to pay for new lighting at the Kippy Mitchell Sports Complex before turning into an annual tradition.
There will be live music by 12/OC from 7 to 9 p.m.
Local businesses will be offering treats such as ice cream, cotton candy, blueberry and apple crisps, cakes and cake pops, and more. Food trucks will serve the event including Cargo Pizza, Smokin’ Phil’s Belly Bustin’ BBQ, Steemie Weenies, Cheese the Day, Mr. Tuna, Char Wrig’s Sno and Dough Adventure Co., Mow’s Munchies, and Poppies Kettle Corn.
Summerfest will feature a Kid’s Bounce Zone, which is free sposored by a donation from Town & Country Federal Credit Union.
A fireworks show will start at about 9:15 p.m.
Parking is free and available at Wentworth School (20 Quentin Drive), Scarborough Middle School (21 Quentin Drive), Scarborough High School (11 Municipal Drive), Scarborough Public Library after 5 pm (48 Gorham Road), and the Scarborough Municipal Building (259 U.S. Route 1).
Summerfest also includes a 5k and a Kids 1-Mile Fun Run. These races are also held on Aug. 18 and begin at the main entrance to Scarborough High School. The Kids Fun Run takes off at 6 p.m., and the 5k at 6:30 p.m.
Registration is available online for each race at runsignup.com and costs $10 per child for the Kids Fun Run, and $20 per person for the 5k. Registration is also available the day of for an increased cost starting at 4:30 p.m. at the main entrance to Scarborough High School. These fees benefit the Scarborough track and cross-country programs.
