Philip H. Vail
SCARBOROUGH – Philip H. Vail, 77, of Scarborough, passed away, July 19, 2023, at Maine Medical Center, after a period of declining health.
Phil was born in Portland and grew up in Buxton. He graduated from Bonny Eagle High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Missouri.
He was an Army veteran and served a tour in Vietnam.
Phil moved to and lived in Missouri and Texas. He taught history at the University of Missouri for 10 years. He then moved on to the financial world as district manager for Ryans convenient stores for 15 years. His final job of 20 years was managing various restaurants. When he retired, he moved back to Maine to be closer to family.
Phil loved sports and reading. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan. During retirement, he was a volunteer at the Scarborough Library and a host to the cancer center at Maine Medical Center in Scarborough.
Phil leaves a sister, Carolyn Vail and a brother, Frank Vail Jr., a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Richard and Robert, and a sister, Judith.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 28 at 12 p.m. at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Springvale. Ron Robinson will officiate.
Dennett, Craig and Pate, 13 Portland Rd., Bar Mills, is entrusted with his services.
