Cassidy

Southern Maine Community College President Joe Cassidy has resigned, effective Aug. 1, to become president of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in Standish.

Cassidy served as president of Southern Maine Community College for six years, with a prior five-years as president of Washington County Community College. During his tenure at SMCC, he led the college through the COVID-19 pandemic, an expansion of the Brunswick campus and an increase in the college’s workforce training programs. He also developed partnerships with nonprofits including the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center, Prosperity Maine and In Her Presence.

Cassidy will succeed Saint Joseph’s President Jim Dlugos, who is retiring.

The Maine Community College System has launched a nationwide search to replace Cassidy. An interim president will be appointed.
