Philip Michael Fenderson

GORHAM – Philip Michael Fenderson, 75, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023, at Southern Maine Hospital in Biddeford.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1947, in Calais, a son of Frank and Viola Fenderson. He attended high school in Calais, where he played on the basketball team and in the school band.

Phil was fascinated with music. He developed his talent, playing the accordion, guitar, and especially the trumpet. In his hometown, he was asked to play taps on Memorial Day at the Milltown Honor Roll. He played drums for local rock and roll bands, and never lost his love for “Rush” or “Nazareth.”

He was an avid follower of all New England sports teams. Thanks to Phil, all family members can drink their coffee from a Red Sox or a Patriots mug. We shall miss his keen sense of humor, his instant come-backs, and his ready wit. We shall miss his frequent phone calls to the family always ending with “I Love You”, and we loved him too.

Phil was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Norma Alcantara, his brother, John Fenderson; and a grandson, Brandyn Fenderson.

He leaves behind his daughters Laura and Shari Fenderson; his grandchildren Skie Miller, Bryce Ericson, Andrew Fenderson; his great-grandchildren, Theodore, Leanando, Ember and Novella Fenderson; sister, Jane Fenderson Eakins and her husband Don, whom Phil loved as a brother, sister, Barbara Fenderson Dalvet; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his significant other, Joanne Pettengill of Gorham.

A graveside service will be held on Friday June 30, at 1 p.m., at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.

Online condolence messages can be submitted at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service website, http://www.mainefuneral.com.
