Penelope (Chapman) Turner
GREENSBURG, Pa. – Penelope Ann (Chapman) Turner passed away on May 23, 2023 after fighting cancer for a number of years. She planned on being a miracle and that she was.
Penny was born on March 21, 1939 in Portland. She attended Portland schools graduating from Deering High School in 1956. She attended Westbrook Junior College, and Colby College. She lived her life with an intrepid spirit in a multitude of places including Maine, New York, Georgia, Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania.
Penny proudly shattered career stereotypes and set an illustrious model for her family: Junior Executive Trainor at Grover Cronin Dept. Store, Administrative Assistant to the Director of Nursing at the New England Deaconess Hospital, Claims Examiner for Union Mutual Insurance Co., Tax Preparation for a law company, Legal Secretary, Activities Director for Norwell, Full-Time Student, Counselor, Educational Youth Development Educator at UNH Cooperative Extension, and Director of the JAYS After School Program for Jeannette Middle School.
Penny was a woman of numerous hobbies for the entirety of her life. She devoted much time to her genealogical project, book club, bridge club, and many activities within her church. The most important aspect of her life was her family, teaching her children cooking, sewing, knitting, scrapbooking, crafting, canning/pickling food, gardening, and most of all loving unconditionally. Penny’s “Happy Place” was at the ocean enjoying every beach she could get to walking in the sand, water, collecting sea treasures. Penny’s physical presence will be terribly missed, but we know she will never leave us. We know she will live on through each and every person whose life she touched. It would be an impossible feat to ever forget her laughter, adventures, or impact on her community, friends, and family.
Penny is survived by her adoring siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Penny’s surviving siblings are Deborah and Fred Sprague, Linda and Phil Libby, and C. Drummond and Ellen Chapman. Her children include Sherry and Rob Warren, Kim and Chris Kolesar, and Kathy and Phi Vu; Penny’s many grandchildren are Krystal and Johnny Hartwell, Justin Warren, Taylor and Colin Hausman, Kayla Kolesar. Jessie Kolesar, Jo Shirley and Chace Howard, and Amber Shirley and Chace Geheb; along with her great-grandchildren Mikey, Grace and Vincent Hartwell, and Cooper Hausman.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents Clark Drummond Chapman Jr. and Janet Kennedy Chapman.
