Robert J. Cody

PORTLAND – Robert J. Cody, passed away May 2, 2023 at Maine Medical Center due to complications from cardiovascular disease.

Bob was born on June 9, 1954, at Mercy Hospital in Portland to the late Robert O. and Helen J. (Dyro) Cody. For most of his life he lived on the same street in the West End, attended neighborhood schools, and graduated from Portland High School in 1972 as one of the first to attend “Cookie Tech.”

Bob was a talented craftsman, musician, and problem solver who, with sufficient pondering, could figure out, and fix or build almost anything. Bob had a wide variety of interests which he pursued with focus and enthusiasm. He belonged to many organizations, including having been a trustee of the 470 Railroad Club and a director of the Scarborough Fish and Game Club.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Helen; sisters Jean and Carol, brother, Tom; and his sorely missed friend, Stanley Joyce.

He is survived by his companion and wife of 43 years, Sara Anne (Sally) Cody; a brother, David Cody, a sister, Elizabeth and her husband Glenn Israel; a niece, Leah Israel; cousins and friends.

Bob’s family greatly appreciates the care and kindness of the care providers in CICU at Maine Medical Center.

Visiting hours celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Thursday, June 1, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday, June 2, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Louis Church, 279 Danforth St., Portland.
