Florence “Flo” Paul Rich

TOPSHAM – Florence “Flo” Paul Rich was born Nov. 8, 1933 in Upper Darby, Pa. She grew up in Philadelphia’s Main Line area, graduating in 1951 from Lower Marion High School, Ardmore, Pa.

After several years of secretarial work, she landed her dream job as a United Air Lines stewardess. She met her husband, Wallace W. Rich of South Portland in Boston, Mass. where she was based for UAL. They shared over 50 years of marriage and an abiding love of adventure and travel. “Wally and Flo” had two children, Kim and Paul. The family lived in Maine for a time, then moved to Michigan, Va., and back to Maine in 1974 where they owned and operated Laughton House in Pemaquid Beach and Casey’s Restaurant in Damariscotta for over 10 years.

Flo and Wally traveled the world including trips to New Zealand, Europe, Alaska, and even living in Hawaii for four years! After Wally’s death in 2007, in Cundy’s Harbor, Flo met her second life partner, Douglas Johnson of Harpswell. They shared over 10 years of travel, parties, blended family fun and more.

While she worked hard in many jobs throughout her life, she is best described as a consummate, self-taught artist, winning many art show awards and sharing her realistic portraits and landscapes with a grateful audience. Flo passed peacefully in the loving care of staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on May 19, 2023 in Scarborough.
