McKayla Kortes pitched her fourth no-hitter of the season – her second in five days – also drove in four runs with three hits to power York to an 18-0 win over Cape Elizabeth in a five-inning softball game Wednesday at Cape Elizabeth.
Kortes finished with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Maddy Fitzgerald went 5 for 5 with four RBI and four runs scored. Ella Moon launched a three-run homer, and Madison Raymond hit a two-run double as York improved to 14-1. Cape Elizabeth is 7-7.
SOUTH PORTLAND/WESTBROOK 4, MARSHWOOD/BERWICK 3: Ella Nickerson singled home Haley Ball in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting South Portland/Westbrook (12-3) over Marshwood/Berwick (8-6) at South Portland.
Ball led off the seventh with a four-pitch walk, then stole second prior to Nickerson’s hit.
Marshwood tied the game in the top of the seventh when Taylor Labreck drove in Jadyn Eastman with a two-out single.
Delaney Whitten hit a two-run single in the third inning for South Portland. Red Riots pitcher Andrea DiMauro struck out eight and allowed six hits.
Piper Cantanese reached base three times for Marshwood and drove in two runs with a single.
POLAND 3, LAKE REGION 0: Gretchyn Paradis pitched a five-hitter as the Knights (12-2) avenged one their two losses, shutting out the Lakers (9-3) in Naples.
Khloe O’Leary and Nicole Rioux each doubled for the Knights, with O’Leary’s hit driving in a run in the seventh inning. Poland also scored two runs in the fourth.
Lake Region’s Melissa Mayo struck out 10 and allowed only three hits. Margo Tremblay got two of the Lakers’ five hits.
KENNEBUNK 3, THORNTON ACADEMY 2: Emily Hutchins led Kennebunk/Sanford (12-2) with three doubles as they beat the Golden Trojans (7-7) in Kennebunk.
Kennebunk pitcher Julia Pike gave up five hits. The Rams erased a 2-1 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Renee Gonneville had two hits for the Trojans. Thornton pitcher Tess Frager allowed six hits.
NOBLE 8, PORTLAND 7: Trinity Valle had two hits and two RBI, Paige Bronkema added two hits and an RBI, and the Knights (4-10) used a four-run sixth inning to rally past the Bulldogs (3-11) in game stopped by rain in the seventh inning at Deering Oaks.
Kathleen Cote and winning pitcher Kiersten Davis each contributed an RBI single. Valle and Bronkema combined for five runs scored.
Ainsley McCrum and Hadleigh McPartlan both had two hits and an RBI for Portland.
YARMOUTH 18, WELLS 13: The Clippers (6-8) erased a 9-1 deficit with a 10-run rally in the fourth inning, then added seven runs in the fifth to pull away from the Warriors (9-5) in Wells.
Cat Rich and Julia Brown each drove in three runs for Yarmouth.
Nikki Aleman, Savannah Tardiff and Delani Brown all had two RBI for Wells. Brown hit a double and a triple.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 15, ST. DOMINIC 5: Maddy Dow had three hits and two RBI, Tessa Ferguson added two hits and two RBI, and the Seagulls (3-12) cruised past the Saints (7-7) in a six-inning game at Old Orchard Beach.
Summer St. Louis held St. Dom’s to three hits. She also had two hits and an RBI.
Emily Andrews and Sophia Francoise hit an RBI single each for St. Dom’s.
BASEBALL
POLAND 2, LAKE REGION 0: Adam Gwarjanski yielded only three hits and tallied 10 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings, and Regan Cohen struck out the final batter as the Knights (6-8) shut out the Lakers (1-13) in Naples.
Cohen and Aiden MacFawn each had a double and an RBI. Gene Grant and Sam Paladino contributed two singles apiece.
Jacob Chadbourne went the distance for Lake Region, striking out 12 and allowing six hits.
FREEPORT 12, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 6: Ben Bolduc hit a double and a single and drove in three runs to help the Falcons (8-6) beat the Patriots (2-13) in Gray.
Gus Hollen had three singles and two RBI for Freeport, while William Maneikis singled twice and brought home two runs. Zane Aguiar and Harry Walker also had two RBI.
Ian Libby drove in four runs for Gray-New Gloucester with a home run and a single. Jake Maschino contributed a single and a double, and Kaiden Chase hit two singles.
CAPE ELIZABETH 4, YORK 1: Sam Lombardo’s two-run double highlighted a three-run sixth inning as the Capers (11-3) defeated the Wildcats (7-7) in Cape Elizabeth.
Curtis Sullivan earned the win, scattering seven hits while striking out seven.
York pitcher John Jacobsohn allowed only five hits. Robbie Hanscom led the Wildcats with two hits.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
MARSHWOOD 16, PORTLAND 2: Sarah Theriault put in seven goals, and Maddy Poitras tacked on three goals and an assist as the Hawks (9-3) cruised past the Bulldogs (8-3) in South Berwick.
Maeve Long and Lindley Gori each chipped in with two goals. Hadley Prewitt contributed a goal and two assists, and Lauren Walker made 10 saves.
Emily Seavey and Eliza Stein scored for Portland.
FALMOUTH 20, MASSABESIC 6: Lucy Taylor scored seven goals and Sloane Ginevan added five as the Navigators (11-1) sailed past the Mustangs (1-11) in Falmouth.
Maisy Clement contributed four goals and three assists and Maeve Ginevan had a goal and four assists for Falmouth. Addy Tolley finished with three goals and an assist.
Lydia DesRochers led Massabesic with three goals. Marleigh Roy scored twice.
WINDHAM 18, SOUTH PORTLAND 3: Abby Trainor netted six goals and Ashley Clark scored three as the Eagles (8-4) downed the Red Riots (2-10) in South Portland.
Grace Joly and Mallory Muse each added two goals and an assist. Macie Ennis also scored twice.
South Portland got two goals from Rain Jordan and one from Sydney Knaide.
THORNTON ACADEMY 12, BIDDEFORD 11: Morgan Bolduc scored seven goals, including the winner from free position with about five minutes remaining, as the Golden Trojans (8-3) edged the Tigers (8-4) in Biddeford.
Natalie Hilton and Amelia Benoit each added two goals and Sophia Auger made 14 saves for Thornton.
Biddeford got three goals from Abby Bouffard and Kylie Parent, and two from Danielle Emerson and Cece Keller. Nataliah Martinez finished with 11 saves.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 16, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 4: Brayden Warde scored five goals and James Brogan-Provencher added four as the Panthers (8-3) cruised to a win over the Raiders (3-8) at Fryeburg.
Rogers Crowley chipped in with three goals. Zach Leinwand had a goal and an assist.
Asher McKenney, Reid Irwin, Chandler Thorne and Owen Reinbach scored for Fryeburg.
