Grange honors Johnson
Christine Johnson on May 4 received the Highland Lake Grange Community Service Award for 2023.
“A native of Westbrook, Christine is well deserving of this recognition,” the Grange wrote in a Facebook post. Johnson is the president of the Westbrook-Gorham Rotary – and has served as the secretary, community service chairperson and president in the past – as well as the “communications director of Altrusa International of Portland, web administrator of Rotary District 7780, secretary of University of Maine Alumni Chapter of Southern Maine, member of Westbrook Historical Society and president of Portland Club of University of Maine Alumnae.”
Zoot Jumpers in concert
The Saccarappa Concert Series continues at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Conant Homestead, 89 Conant St.
The Maine-based band plays “hot jump blues and cool swing,” according to the Conant Homestead Facebook page. A $10-$15 donation is suggested for the musicians.
50 years ago
The American Journal reported on May 23, 1973, that Simon Snyder was valedictorian of the Westbrook High School graduating class and Cynthia Grant, salutatorian.
