Mary Janice Clarke
WINDHAM – Mary Janice Clarke, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 10, 2023, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, where she recently resided.
Mary was born May 7, 1933, to Roger Fish and Minnie Fish (MacKay) in Melrose, Massachusetts, and resided in Wakefield, Mass., with her parents and brothers, Robert E. Fish and Arthur Fish (predeceased).
Mary graduated from Wakefield High School where she met her surviving husband and love of her life Robert G. Clarke. Mary and Robert shared 70 years of true love, dedication, and marriage. Together they shared many beautiful memories, including raising four sons and the shared joy of their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary was known to many as “Jan” and worked as an AT&T switchboard operator, cashier and school secretary but her most cherished roles were mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a deep, beautiful soul with incredible spunk and wit that carried on until her final days. She started making her own clothing at a young age and continued hobbies that included knitting, crafting, skiing, going on cruises, baking, dining out, dancing, bowling, reading a great book, listening to the waves with her toes in the sand at the ocean, time with beloved friends and cherished holidays and birthday celebrations with her family.
Mary is survived by her husband Robert G. Clarke of Windham; sons, Steven G. Clarke of Panama City, Fla., David M. Clarke of Panama City, Fla., Brian E. Clarke of Intercession, Fla., and Glenn T. Clarke of Raymond, along with her grandchildren, Heather Green of Raymond, Danielle Crosen of Windham, Brandon Clarke of Worchester, Mass., Breannah Bryson of Gardiner, Mass., Spencer Clarke of Rochester, N.Y., Jade Davis, Paige O’Connor and Sara Patterson of Panama City, Fla., and their families including 11 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her beloved friends Lynne and Tom Bouchard of Milford, N.H., Claudia Walton of Portland, and Dianne Gordon of Windham.
Mary requested there be no funeral service, but please feel free to reach out to family with condolences and any fond memories you hold of Mary (Jan). To know her was to love her and she will hold a very special place in the hearts of all who did, for all time.
