Alanna Sawyer capped a four-run rally in the seventh inning with a two-run homer, lifting Scarborough to a 6-4 victory over Windham in a Class A South softball game Saturday in Windham.
The Red Storm (3-0) tied the game on a two-run single by Angelina Pizzella off Kennedy Kimball, and Sawyer followed with a line drive to left.
Windham (3-1) grabbed a 4-2 lead with three runs in the fifth, aided by two errors. Kimball capped rally with an RBI single.
Winning pitcher Natalie Moynihan also had two RBI for Scarborough, and Samantha Cote with 3 for 4.
Kimball and Addie Caiazzo led Windham with two hits apiece.
KENNEBUNK/SANFORD 3, NOBLE 0: Madison Sheppard hit a two-run single and Paige Williams added an RBI single in the third inning, and Julia Pike allowed only two hits as Kennebunk/Sanford (3-0) defeated the Knights (1-3) in Kennebunk.
Dakota Stone notched a double and a single for the hosts. Pike finished with eight strikeouts.
Maren Robinson struck out five while going the distance for Noble.
SOUTH PORTLAND/WESTBROOK 16, DEERING 0: Ella Nickerson went 4 for 4 with a triple, three RBI and three runs as the Red Riots (4-0) beat the Rams (0-4) in a five-inning game at South Portland.
Andrea DiMauro, the winning pitcher, was 3 for 3 with a triple and four RBI. Madison Cole and Emma Boulette each drove in two runs, and Grace Wallace hit a triple and a single and scored three times.
POLAND 9, GREELY 8: The Knights (4-1) scored five runs across the final two innings to rally past the Rangers (1-5) in Poland.
Khloe O’Leary notched two singles and an RBI for Poland. Kayleigh Hood and Nicole Rioux each added a double and an RBI.
Sophie Smith got two hits for Greely.
MARSHWOOD 11, MASSABESIC 6: Jadyn Eastman, Piper Catanese and Lilly Gennero all had two hits, and the Hawks (2-1) took advantage of six errors to beat the Mustangs (1-3) in Waterboro.
Candice Daigle with 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBI for Massabesic.
MARANACOOK 19, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1: Esme Jameson had a double, two singles, three RBI and three runs scored to pace the Black Bears (3-1) to a win over the Seagulls (0-2) in Old Orchard Beach.
Shylah Woodford added a home run, three RBI and three runs scored, while Allie Labelle chipped in with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. Alexis Michaud earned the win in the circle, allowing one hit.
Summer St. Louis got the only hit for Old Orchard.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 2, MORSE 1: Matthew Holbrook pitched a four-hitter as the Panthers (2-1) beat the Shipbuilders (1-5) in Waldoboro.
LEAVITT SWEEPS LINCOLN: The Hornets (4-0) rolled to 8-0 and 7-2 victories over the Eagles (0-2) in a doubleheader in Turner.
Winning pitcher Abby Albert pitched five innings before Haley Cyr closed out the first game. The two combined for 10 strikeouts.
Maddy Dutil and Logan Arsenault each had two singles in Leavitt’s eight-hit attack.
In Game 2, Hailey Turcotte and Sam DeBlois combined on a no-hitter, with Turcotte pitching the first five innings. DeBlois singled twice and Kailey Spugnardi hit a double and a single.
BASEBALL
SOUTH PORTLAND 7, BIDDEFORD 0: Nick Swain struck out nine over six scoreless innings and had a pair of hits to lead the Red Riots (3-1) past the Tigers (1-3) in South Portland.
Nolan Hobbs recorded three hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Hudson Iacuessa and Leo Lomangino each hit an RBI double.
WESTBROOK 3, NOBLE 0: Ben Eugley held the Knights to five hits as Westbrook (1-2) shut out Noble (2-1) at North Berwick.
Dom Brunner and Ryan Stone each drove in a run for the Blue Blazes, who scored single runs in the third, fifth and seventh.
KENNEBUNK 7, PORTLAND 1: James diGiovanni’s two-run double highlighted a five-run sixth inning for Kennebunk, and Quinn MacDonald struck out 10 over six innings as the Rams (2-2) beat the Bulldogs (1-3) at Hadlock Field.
MacDonald allowed four hits. DiGiovanni and Timmy Teguis paced Kennebunk’s offense with two hits apiece.
Hunter Temple led Portland with a triple and single. Reegan Buck also had two hits.
WELLS 3, FREEPORT 0: Spencer Carpenter pitched a two-hitter, and the Warriors (3-0) scored three runs in the sixth inning to beat the Falcons (2-3) in Wells.
Caden Dufort and Ben Grover each drove in a run for Wells, and Caleb Moody got two of the Warriors’ five hits off losing pitcher Aaron Converse.
Carpenter walked two and struck out three.
Ben Bolduc notched both Freeport hits – a single and a double.
MARSHWOOD 7, GORHAM 6: Matt Letellier hit a two-run double and Nolan Shaw had an RBI single as the Mustangs (1-2) used a four-run fifth inning to pull away from the Rams (1-2) at Gorham.
WINDHAM 15, DEERING 3: Ethan Barker’s two-run single highlighted a four-run first inning for Windham (2-2), and the Eagles put the mercy rule into effect with an eight-run sixth inning against the Rams (0-3) at Hadlock Field.
Wyatt Washburn finished with three hits for Windham. Blake Peeples, the winning pitcher, struck out seven and allowed four hits over five innings.
Deering’s Avery Lawrence recorded 11 strikeouts in his five-inning outing and got two of the Rams’ four hits.
YARMOUTH 1, LAKE REGION 0: Sam Lowenstein struck out 11 in a one-hitter, winning a pitchers’ duel with Jacob Chadbourne as the Clippers (1-1) beat the Lakers (1-3) in Yarmouth.
Lowenstein allowed only one base runner – a double by Chadbourne leading off the fifth inning.
Chadbourne, meanwhile, held Yarmouth to one hit. David Swift led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple and scored when the relay back to the infield was mishandled.
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 6, YARMOUTH 2: Mike Malia’s two-run double highlighted a three-run second inning that carried the Raiders (3-3) to a win over the Clippers (1-2) in Yarmouth.
Alexis Castillo contributed an RBI single in support of Bryce Richardson, who pitched a five-hitter.
David Swift and Matt Gautreau hit run-scoring singles for Yarmouth.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
CAPE ELIZABETH 9, FALMOUTH 7: Nick Laughlin broke a second-half tie, and the Capers (5-0) edged the Navigators (3-1) in a rematch of last year’s Class A state final.
The two-time defending champion Capers got goals from seven players, led by Bobby Offit and Alex van Huystee with two apiece. Michael Foley stopped eight shots.
The Navigators were paced by three goals from Gio Guerrette. Cyrus Boothby added a pair, and Drew Noyes made 11 saves.
SOUTH PORTLAND 12, SCARBORUGH 3: Beckett Mehlhorn scored the first two goals of the game and finished with three goals and four assists as the Red Riots (4-1) beat the Spartans (1-4) in South Portland.
Drew Folley, Ian House, Carmine Soucy and Joey Soucy each added two goals and Ben Kieu made nine saves for the Red Riots, who won their fourth game in a row.
Scarborough got two goals from Olin Pedersen and 18 saves from Ben Kerbel.
YORK 14, WINDHAM 9: Kevin Burke posted five goals and three assists to lead the Wildcats (4-0) over the Eagles (3-2) on in Windham.
Luke Douris, Nick Hoy and Quinn Walenta each scored two goals for York. Evan Giacobba made nine saves.
Alex Yeaton tallied five goals for Windham. Tobias Perkins had two goals and an assist, and Reed Wescott turned aside 11 shots.
MARSHWOOD 14, OXFORD HILLS 0: Tommy Demeroto paced the Hawks (3-1) with four goals and three assists as they rolled past the Vikings (1-3) in Paris.
Kevin Couglar recorded two goals and five assists, and Chase Turcotte and Milo Closson also scored twice.
GORHAM 8, KENNEBUNK 2: Haden Pelletier and Ryker Spear each had two goals and two assists, and Jacob Lehmann added two goals and one assist as Gorham (1-2) won at Kennebunk (2-1).
Gorham goalie Ian Connors made six saves.
DEERING 15, WINTHROP 8: Andrew Burke totaled six goals and five assists, powering the Rams (3-0) past Winthrop/Maranacook/Spruce Mountain in Winthrop.
Joey Foley contributed four goals, Corbin Burke added two, and Trip Martson had a goal and three assists. Vinny Cavallaro made 10 saves for the Rams.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/POLAND 13, MASSABESIC 2: Will Gwinn finished with four goals and two assists, and Miles Post also scored four times as the 26ers (3-2) cruised past the Mustangs (1-4) in Gray.
Caden Ouellette added a goal and three assists. GNG/Poland goalie Kyle Plummer made 27 saves.
Kaden Manning scored twice for Massabesic, both goals assisted by Charlie Carroll.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
LINCOLN ACADEMY 20, HOULTON 10: Mariam Delisle scored seven goals and set up another, and Marley LeBel had five goals and two assists as the Eagles (2-1) cruised past Houlton/Hodgdon/Greater Houlton/East Grand (0-1) in Newcastle.
Abby Kopp chipped in with three goals. Scarlett O’Brien added two.
Meghan Peters scored five goals for Houlton.
YORK 16, SOUTH PORTLAND 5: Ava Fontaine scored five goals, and Grace Clayton and Emma Joyce each added three as the Wildcats (2-1) handled the Red Riots (0-5) in South Portland.
Abigail Armlin and Anna Doughty chipped in with two goals apiece.
Rain Jordan and Amelia Saunders scored twice for South Portland.
PORTLAND 8, BONNY EAGLE 4: Phoebe Knoll netted four goals as the Bulldogs (3-1) defeated the Scots (0-3) in Standish.
Eliza Stein tallied two goals and an assist for Portland, which led 5-0 at halftime. Emily Seavey got the other goal, and Eva Smith made seven saves for the Bulldogs.
Bonny Eagle’s Lauren Manson had two goals and an assist. Peyton Cobb and Zoey Lailer also scored.
GREELY 5, FREEPORT 4: Charlotte Taylor scored twice, and Lauren Dennen, Audrey Ingersoll and Asja Kelman each had one goal as the Rangers (5-1) edged the Falcons (4-1) in Freeport.
Emily Olsen, Mia Levesque and Emma White scored in the first half and Kate Tracy got a second-half goal for Freeport. Falcons goalie Piper Williams made five saves.
