Profenno’s, Frog and Turtle pizza winners

A large turnout of hungry pizza connoisseurs at last week’s Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club  Pizza Challenge judged Profenno’s Pizzeria and Pub’s as the best tasting and Frog and Turtle’s “Bacon Got Better” pie as the most creative.

In other prizes, Lorraine Faherty won two round-trip Jet Blue tickets, courtesy of Phil Spiller Jr.; Lisa Bush, one year of Amato’s pizza; Patty Kenney, 50/50 raffle; Tanner McMahon, a $50 Amato’s gift card; and Cassidy LaCroix, a pizza pool float.

The challenge, held at the Westbrook Community Center, raised more than $10,000 for  Rotary programs, including scholarships and efforts to fight food insecurity and homelessness, according to Spiller, the event’s chairperson.

Together Days auction seeks donations

Lorraine Glidden and Deb Shangraw of the Westbrook-Gorham Community Chamber are looking for businesses that would like donate items for the Westbrook Together Days auction June 3.

The Westbrook Gorham Community Chamber is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax exempt. Proceeds will go to Westbrook High School and the Westbrook Regional Vocational Center and for scholarships at Gorham High School.

Saccarappa Concert Series kickoff

The Saccarappa Concert Series will start 7 p.m. May 8 at the Conant Homestead, 89 Conant St., Westbrook, with Irish fiddler Gerry O’Connor. Suggested donation is $10 to $15.

Scholarship applications due

The Friends of Walker Memorial Library offer a “bucks for books” scholarship to a Westbrook High School senior. The $1,000 scholarship is meant to go towards books and school supplies.

Applications are due Friday, May 5. To qualify, you must have an active library card, write a letter about a memory of the library and tell the Friends where you will be attending college.

WHS class of ’78 reunion

The Westbrook High School class of 1978 will gather at 6 p.m. June 17 at the Frog and Turtle restaurant, 3 Vallee Square.
