Connor McCabe singled home Devin Place in the top of the ninth inning with his third hit of the game, then scored on a single by Dominic Dumont as Noble earned a 5-3 win Wednesday in a Class A South baseball game in North Berwick.
Nathan Locke pitched five innings of one-hit relief with nine strikeouts and also drove in two runs for Noble (2-0), which erased a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth to force extra innings. Carl Gregoire tied it with an RBI single.
Chase Dodier also had three hits for Noble, which was the visiting team despite the game being played on its home field.
Nolan Hobbs and Nick Swain led South Portland (1-1) with two hits apiece. Andrew Heffernan and Richie Gilboy each drove in a run.
GORHAM 7, WESTBROOK 4: The Rams opened their season with a home win, thanks to five unearned runs in their final two at-bats.
Malachi Scribner got the win with three innings of two-hit, one-run relief. Sophomore starter Wyatt Nadeau left after four innings, trailing 3-2. He struck out nine and gave up two hits and two earned runs.
Mason Finck and Brady Wintle each had two hits for Gorham.
Zach Jalbert had an RBI triple in the second inning for Westbrook (0-2). Quincy Seavey hit two singles.
FREEPORT 4, YARMOUTH 1: Thomas Roy’s two-run double highlighted a four-run fourth inning that carried the Falcons (2-1) to a win over the Clippers (0-1) in Freeport.
Arlo Boutureira picked up the win and Aaron Converse recorded the save. Graham Roux led Yarmouth with two hits.
CAPE ELIZABETH 7, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 4: Brady Inman and Andrew Choi each drove in two runs to lead the Capers (3-0) past the Raiders (1-3) at Cape Elizabeth.
Cape was held to four hits, including two by Ben Altenburg, but took advantage of seven walks. Jameson Bryant struck out seven over four innings for the Capers, allowing three hits, one walk and four unearned runs.
Losing pitcher Bryan Martinez Chavez had two hits and two RBI for Fryeburg.
WELLS 5, YORK 2: The Warriors (2-0) took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by an RBI double from Keith Ramsey, as they defeated the Wildcats (2-2) in Wells.
Ayden Collins went 2 for 3 and Caden Dufort drove in a pair of runs for Wells.
John Jacobsohn got two of York’s six hits.
GREELY 10, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Marky Axelsen went 2 for 2 with a double and a grand slam as the Rangers (2-2) beat the Patriots (0-4) in five innings at Cumberland.
Sam Almy went the distance on the mound for Greely, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out six.
THORNTON ACADEMY 10, BONNY EAGLE 0: Jeremiah Chessie, Henry Lausier and Brayden Williams each had two hits, and Evan Beaudette and Owen Critchley drove in two runs as the Trojans (2-0) beat the Scots (0-2) in a five-inning game at Standish.
Thornton pitcher Jack Nussbaum gave up two hits, struck out six and walked three.
LACROSSE
BONNY EAGLE 11, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 5: Connor Krunkkala scored seven goals to lead the Scots (1-3) past the Raiders (1-3) in Standish.
Lucas Laforest chipped in with three goals, and Mason Leblanc made nine saves. Owen Galligan had four goals for Fryeburg.
TRAIP ACADEMY 13, LAKE REGION 5: Tucker Johnson and Brody Johnson each had four goals and two assists to lead the Rangers (3-1) to a win over the Lakers (0-4) in Kittery.
Makili Matty added two goals and three assists. Noah Matthews, Joey Watts and Eli Holben each contributed a goal and an assist, and Traip goalie Noah Zyskowski made 13 saves.
Lake Region got two goals from Zach Vogel, and one apiece from Kolbie Kaeser, Ray Tucker and Brayden Lamontagne.
