Sam Rank hit a 3-pointer to start the game, Mogga Yanga scored eight points in the decisive third quarter and Deering earned its first victory, defeating Scarborough 68-53 in a Class AA boys’ basketball game Thursday in Portland.

Evan Legassey finished with 23 points, Yanga had 17 and Sam Anderson 10 for Deering (1-17), which used a 20-9 run in the third quarter to extend its lead to 52-40.

De’Angelo Alston scored 16 points and Blake Harris had 12 for the Red Storm (6-12).

THORNTON ACADEMY 40, SANFORD 37: Will Davies scored 26 points, including eight in the decisive third quarter as the Golden Trojans (15-3) edged Sanford (5-13) at Saco.

Thornton trailed 23-19 at halftime before Davis sparked an 11-2 run in the third quarter that put the Trojans ahead to stay.

Liam Gendron scored 12 points on four 3-pointers for the Spartans.

MARSHWOOD 43, WESTBROOK 41: Andrew Perry converted a three-point play with 48 seconds remaining, then scored in the paint with four seconds left to lift Marshwood (13-5) over Westbrook (13-5) at South Berwick.

Perry scored 10 of his 17 points in the final quarter for the Hawks, who led 25-13 at halftime before the Blue Blazes rallied.

Cooper Aiguier added 12 points and Jason Singer had 10 for the Hawks.

Kolby Dunphe led Westbrook with 11 points.

BIDDEFORD 72, MORSE 51: Julius Silva tied a school record with seven 3-pointers and finished with 27 points, leading the Tigers (5-13) past the Shipbuilders (2-16) in Bath.

Drew Smyth chipped in 15 points and Travis Edgerton had 13.

Gabe Morrison led Morse with 13 points.

GORHAM 76, NOBLE 47: After trailing 14-9 through the first quarter, the Rams (13-5) totaled 57 points in the next two quarters to pull away from Noble (7-11) at Gorham.

Devin Dobson-Jacques scored 13 of his 16 points in the second quarter, and Gabe Michaud got 11 of his 16 in the first half as Gorham pulled to a 37-24 lead at intermission.

Caden Smith added 14 points and Ashton Leclerc had 12 for the Rams.

Bryce Guitard scored 16 points and Jayden Dameron scored 11 for Noble.

FALMOUTH 65, KENNEBUNK 46: Judd Armstrong put in 19 points, Paul Dilworth added 14 and Lucas Dilworth had 12 as the Navigators (14-4) cruised past the Rams (9-9) in Kennebunk.

Theo Pow led Kennebunk with 13 points.

CHEVERUS 68, WINDHAM 38: Silvano Ismail scored 21 points to help the Stags (13-5) defeat the Eagles (5-13) at Portland.

Cheverus led 28-21 at halftime, then put it away with a 21-11 run in the third quarter.

Leo McNabb added 10 for the Stags.

Quinton Lindsay led Windham with nine points.

BRUNSWICK 45, MT. ARARAT 41: Trevor Gerrish broke a 41-41 tie with three seconds remaining, lifting the Dragons (6-12) over the Eagles (9-9) in Brunswick.

Gerrish finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Thomas Harvey scored 18 points.

Kasey Bergeron led Mt. Ararat with nine points.

LINCOLN ACADEMY 81, BELFAST 27: Gabe Hagar scored 24 points and the Eagles (13-5) made 15 3-pointers in a win over the Lions (1-17) at Belfast.

Twelve players scored for Lincoln, and 10 made at least one 3-pointer.

KJ Payson scored 13 points for Belfast.

TEMPLE ACADEMY 56, PINE TREE ACADEMY 44: Nathan Corey hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 24 points as the Bereans (6-11) beat the Breakers (0-14) in Waterville.

Samuel Batista led Pine Tree with nine points.

HOCKEY

SOUTH PORTLAND 3, MARSHWOOD 2: Roan Hopkins capped a comeback from a two-goal deficit when he scored with 12 seconds remaining, lifting South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete (7-8) to a win over Marshwood/Traip/Sanford/Noble (8-5) at Troubh Ice Arena.

Marshwood led 2-0 after one period on goals by Chase Turcotte and Bradley Wentworth. Richard Gilboy’s power-play goal with 20 seconds left in the second period started South Portland’s comeback, and Liam Anderson tied it in the third.

South Portland goalie Jasper Curtis made 27 saves. Ben Ott stopped 24 shots for the Knighthawks.

BRUNSWICK 7, GREELY 4: Avery Tatham, A.J. Wolverton and Nick Marro each scored two goals to help the Dragons (12-1-2) defeat the Rangers (2-12) in Falmouth.

Kennedy Eddy also scored for Brunswick.

Charlie Moore had two goals for Greely. Finn Murphy and Rylan Haight were the other goal scorers.
