Craft fair supports music teacher
A craft fair will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the South Portland High School Cafeteria at 637 Highland Ave.
More than 30 local crafters will be on hand to sell their goods. There will be a children’s “make and take” craft table, raffles, and a bake sale/coffee shop. Admission is free.
This is a fundraiser for South Portland music teacher Jen Fletcher, who has been accepted to represent Maine and South Portland again as she joins the Band Directors Marching Band to perform in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

Community choir to host Christmas concerts
The Tri City Community Chorus will perform its Christmas show “A Winter Afternoon on Shaker Hill with the Tri City Community Chorus,” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Notre Dame Chapel in Alfred and also will perform “When The Snow Falls: A Winter Evening with the Tri City Community Chorus,” at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Performing Arts Center at Biddeford Middle School. One more week of Festival of Trees
The 18th annual Festival of Trees continues this week at the Dyer Library and Saco Museum at 371 Main St.
Dozens of dazzlingly decorated trees adorn the museum’s galleries. Other highlights for the festival include a raffle for designer trees and other gift items, which ends Dec. 15.
Two additional events will be offered this week. “Tea with Mrs. Claus” will be Saturday by advance reservation only. To reserve a spot for seatings at noon and 1:30 p.m., call 283-3861 ext. 102. A visit with Santa will be held from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The Festival of Trees is free and open to the public. Raffle tickets, with a chance to win a tree, may be purchased at the Saco Museum. Winners will be drawn Dec. 15. Visitors get a chance to vote for their favorite tree – one of the most popular activities at the festival. Handcrafted ornaments and other decorations are available for purchase at the museum gift shop. All raffle and sale proceeds benefit the community programming efforts of the Dyer Library/Saco Museum.

Christmas parade rolling through town
The Wells Chamber of Commerce will hold its 37th annual Christmas Parade at 2 p.m. Sunday, beginning at the Wells Plaza and proceeding north on Route 1 to Wells Junior High School.
There will be plenty of cookies and cocoa being served at the starting point and York Hospital will be in front of the school gym at the conclusion of the parade.

Library updates weekly offerings
Wells Public Library will host the following events this week at 1434 Post Road:
• The class “Cultivating Mushrooms at Home Year Round” will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in-person or via Zoom. North Spore is on a mission to disrupt the food system by empowering people to grow and harvest their own healthy edible and medicinal mushrooms. In addition to the positive environmental impacts of mycelium, mushrooms can improve health and wellness and become a meat alternative. • A “Teen Collaborative Crafting: Perler Bead Keychains and Earrings” session, for students in grade 5 and up, will be held at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. It will include Perler beads, grids to line the design, iron and parchment paper and accessory attachments. Snacks will be provided.
• The Nonfiction Book Group for adults will meet in person at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss “Voyage of Mercy: The USS Jamestown, the Irish Famine, and the Remarkable Story of America’s First Humanitarian Mission” by Stephen Puelo.
• Afternoon Crafternoon will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday for a session on making paint swirl ornaments. All materials will be provided.

‘Sing We Noël’ concert returns
Classical Uprising’s annual holiday concert, “Sing We Noël,” is back and will offer three family-friendly performances on two separate dates, replete with sing-along carols and a cookie and cocoa reception. Performances will be offered at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick, and again at the same times on Dec. 17 at The Episcopal Church of Saint Mary in Falmouth.

Museum offering two holiday events
The Brick Store Museum will sponsor the following holiday events this week at 117 Main St.:
• A Holiday Showcase will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. Enjoy unique items and gifts from Maine artists and crafters at this holiday pop-up, which will be held weekly through Dec. 21.
• Two Holiday Candlelight Strolls will be offered – the first is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, exploring the stories and traditions of Kennebunk’s immigrant families in the 19th century. During this in-person tour through the museum, participants meet five families, all of whom immigrated to Kennebunk in the 19th century, and hear their stories and holiday traditions. Then, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, there will be a second stroll which details the stories and traditions of Kennebunk’s immigrant families in the 20th century. Both events will end with live fiddle music by musicians Sally and Paul Wells.

The Falmouth Congregational Church UCC will host its Christmas Spectacular from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at 267 Falmouth Road.

Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Boyhood Home hosts party
The annual “Hawthorne House Christmas Party” will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Boyhood Home, located at 40 Hawthorne Road.
Festivities start with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a favorite culinary creation along with serving spoons. The cocktail hour and dinner will be BYOB, with guests asked to bring any alcoholic beverages or special mixers they might like. The Hawthorne House will provide setups of ice and standard mixers. The festive evening will conclude with the singing of Christmas carols.

Celebrate Christmas all weekend
Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce’s 36th annual Christmas by the Sea celebration will be held Friday night through Sunday afternoon.
Festivities will kick off with caroling and s’mores at 5 p.m. Friday at Perkins Cove, followed by Santa’s arrival for pictures at 5:45 p.m. and a tree lighting at 6 p.m. Other events include the Atlantic Harmonies choirs’ concert at the Baptist Church at 7 p.m. and the downtown tree lighting at Veteran’s Park at 8:15 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite ugly holiday sweater or shine in their holiday attire; prizes will be awarded.
On Saturday, signature events include the annual Christmas Parade at 3 p.m., a bonfire on the beach at 4 p.m. and fireworks at Main Beach at 4:30 p.m. Other Saturday activities include shopping at the artisan craft fairs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dunaway Center and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the adjacent fire house. Santa will make additional visits at locations throughout town. There also will be a barbershop choir concert by Seacoast Men of Harmony at 7 p.m. at the Baptist Church.
Sunday’s festivities will begin at the Wells Christmas Parade at 2 p.m. and then back to Oqunquit for holiday celebrations and music at various restaurants.
Area businesses will host open houses, outdoor hot chocolate bars, book signings, holiday music and performances, children’s crafts and story time, scavenger hunts, and more.
