Christmas Prelude returns for two weeks
The 41st annual Christmas Prelude returns for a two-week holiday celebration at various venues beginning Thursday through Dec. 11.
This year’s events include a tree-lighting on Friday, a re-imagined Santa’s arrival by lobster boat and the return of the craft fairs the prelude is known for. Midweek merriment includes a Cookie Crawl, house tours of the decorated White Columns, a Merry Market at Maine Art Hill, cookie decorating, art classes and the return of the ever-popular Walk to Bethlehem on Dec. 7 and a Storybook Christmas for children on Dec. 8.

WELLS
Tree-lighting to be held Friday
Wells will hold its 3rd annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony 6 p.m. Friday at the Wells Town Hall, at 208 Sanford Road. This year includes a meet and greet with Santa, performances from the Atlantic Harmonies singing group, and a Touch-A-Truck event for children of all ages to explore a fire truck, decorate cookies and ornaments, and enjoy a hot cocoa bar. This is free and welcome to all ages.
In addition to a tree lighting, there also will be a Chanukah menorah on display. Dress for the weather.
WELLS
Arsenic and Old Lace at Wells High School
The Wells High School Players will present four performances of the classic play “Arsenic and Old Lace” this week at the Olenn Performing Arts Center at Wells High at 200 Sanford Road. There will be a 3:30 p.m. matinee on Wednesday, free for students and seniors, and $5 all others.
Additional showings are at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, 7 p.m. Friday, and another matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday; cost for the last three performances is $5 for students and seniors and $8 for adults. General seating and tickets will be available at the door one hour prior to showtime.

Community Chorus to perform this weekend
The Community Chorus at South Berwick will perform two “Holiday Festival” concerts this weekend, the first at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Noble High School’s Hussey Theater at 100 Noble Way, North Berwick; and the second at 3 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church Episcopal at 43 Pine St. in Exeter, New Hampshire.
Advance tickets are $12 for general admission and can be purchased at ccsb-sing.org. At-the-door tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for seniors and students.

Cathedral to hold Family Dinner Night
A Family Dinner Night will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Guild Hall of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 307 Congress St.
The meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by a talk for the adults and fun activities for the children while the presentation is offered. Shannon Fossett, a canonist for the Diocese of Portland’s Office of the Tribunal, will speak about the Catholic perspective on marriage.
All families are welcome, including those not enrolled in a faith formation program.

Groups will lead Happy Wanderers hike
Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust, Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital’s Journey to Health program for a Happy Wanderers Hike at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Stover Preserve.
This trail is an easy .9 mile hike along the Passagassawakeag River. After finishing this loop, hikers are welcome to continue on for a hike to the Head of Tide Preserve, for an additional mile on moderate terrain. Wear hunter orange clothing.
Carpool is encourage, with parking at the Head of Tide Preserve, across from the Stover Preserve.
