SCARBOROUGH—Police Department Administrative Assistant Cathy Chandler has recently been recognized for 40 years of service to the Town of Scarborough. Chandler is only the third police department employee to ever reach 40 years of service to Scarborough.
“I love this town, have lived here my entire life, and grew up in Public Safety,” said Chandler. “I have had the honor of working with some amazing people who I have known my entire life. Others, we became friends and worked with throughout my entire career who I am still friends with.”
Chandler’s career began in July 1981 as a reserve officer assigned to Higgins Beach foot patrol, and then as a dispatcher. Chandler received several commendations in this role. In 1997, she became the full-time records clerk. Two years later, Chandler became the chief’s administrative assistant.
Chandler “has continued to be known for her steady work ethic, expertise and consistency, according to the town’s Nov. 1 e-newsletter.
“As far as the acknowledgement, I was extremely humbled and am not one to be in the spotlight,” Chandler said. “I much prefer to be behind the scenes, coordinating events.”
“It honestly doesn’t seem possible that I have been here 40 years. I still enjoy coming to work every day,” she said.
“Scarborough Police is very fortunate to have the caliber of person they have in Cathy Chandler,” the newsletter states. “She has immense pride in the department and safeguards our reputation with her professionalism and institutional knowledge. Her tremendous support to everyone in the department is greatly appreciated.”
