This month’s message from The Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus of Brunswick/Bath
The Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus of Brunswick/Bath is seeking singers!
Every year at Christmas time, the Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus of Brunswick/Bath bring music to coastal area assisted living, nursing homes, senior housing and even hospitals from Brunswick to Boothbay and places in between.
Sometimes a quartet perform; sometimes the whole chorus of about 20 men, dressed to fit the occasion with Santa hats and big smiles! They may also sing at community-based events like an upcoming tree lighting or even bring the Christmas Spirit to Walmart or strolling the streets of Bath!
Although the chorus is registered in Brunswick with the national Barbershop Harmony Society of Nashville, TN, the men come from all over the region, from Harpswell and Durham up to Warren, Waterville and Auburn, The Nor’easters Director is Kathy Robitaille of Alna.
The chorus meets every week to practice in Bath at the Respite Care Center (although their rehearsals are no “respite”). Most performances must be memorized, except for the Christmas season, when music is sung from their Yuletide books.
During COVID, it was difficult to impossible to get to facilities. Last Christmas they stood in the cold outside some open porch windows of a smaller facility, in order to bring Christmas songs to the residents or sang behind a large sheet of plexiglass. Fortunately, things are starting to open and the chorus director is starting to schedule locations. There is no greater joy than to bring beautiful Christmas music to our senior citizens, who love to see us showing up, ready to sing, and they are ready to sing along!
If you are a male singer of any age (young or young at heart) who would like to help bring the Christmas joy for the season, you can contact Director Kathy Robitaille at 207-542-7699. You will have a wonderful time, with a great bunch of men, who love to entertain during this time. It’s what makes their Christmas so very special every year.
