The Bowdoin College men’s soccer team scored three straight goals to beat Oneonta College, 3-1, in the third round of the NCAA Division III men’s soccer tournament on Saturday in Amherst, Massachusetts.
The Polar Bears (13-1-5) advance to face Mary Washington in the regional final at 1 p.m. Sunday at Amherst College. The Red Dragons finish 15-3-3.
Oneonta took a 1-0 lead 11:56 in when Lucas Fecci scored from Owen Siegel. Felipe Rueda Duran scored from Charlie Ward less than three minutes later and Bowdoin took the lead when Tyler Huck scored 23:41 into the first.
Michael Webber had five saves for Bowdoin, while Nate Hanna stopped three shots for Oneonta.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
YALE 55, MAINE 46: The Black Bears (1-2) were held to 10 points in the first half and lost standout guard Anne Simon to an apparent ankle injury as the Bulldogs (3-2) won in Orono.
Maine made only 3 of 25 shots in the first half and trailed 30-10. The Black Bears cut their deficit to 40-34 on a layup by Sarah Talon early in the fourth quarter but could get no closer.
Sera Hodgson led Maine with 15 points. Caroline Bornemann had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
BATES 74, BROOKLYN COLLEGE 59: Meghan Graff had 23 points as the Bobcats (1-1) cruised to a win over the Bulldogs (1-2) in the Emmanuel College Tip Off Tournament in Boston.
Nwachukwu Delaney had 13 points, while Elsa Daulerio had 12 for Bates. Kayla Bridgeman and Jenna Berens each had 10 rebounds.
Gianna Gotti had 21 points and nine rebounds for Brooklyn College.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 75, REGIS 44: Kasey Oliver had 13 points as the Nor’easters (3-2) beat the Pride (0-4) in Biddeford.
Jordyn Franzen added 12 points, while Keagan Dunbar had 11 points and seven rebounds for UNE.
Courtney Doherty had 15 points for Regis.
HUSSON 63, ST. JOSEPH’S 57: Bailey Donovan had 16 points and 17 rebounds, and the Eagles (3-2) overcame a six-point halftime deficit to beat the Monks (2-2) in Standish.
Vanessa Duarte added 15 points and Hannah Richards scored 12 for Husson.
Angelica Hurley led St. Joseph’s with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
SMITH 59, BOWDOIN 54: Selam Maher hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:35 remaining, and the Pioneers (4-0) rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit against the Polar Bears (3-1) in Brunswick.
Sydney Jones was the only player in double figures for Bowdoin, finishing with 12 points.
SOUTHERN MAINE CC 70, PAUL SMITH’S 50: Jaylyn Bartolome led the Seawolves (5-1) with 18 points and Ashleigh Mathisen added 15 as they defeated the Bobcats (1-2) in Paul Smith’s, New York.
Tara Flanders scored 12 points for SMCC. Jordan Lewis led Paul Smith’s with 16 points.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
SOUTHERN MAINE 72, MAINE-PRESQUE ISLE 70: Chance Dixon hit a jumper with 5 seconds remaining to lift the Huskies (4-1) over the Owls (0-3) in Gorham.
Simon Chadbourne led USM with 20 points and nine rebounds. Tommy Whelan scored 13 points off the bench, Jason Lombard added 12 and Clay Kuhn had 10.
ST. JOSEPH’S 91, HUSSON 74: Griffin Foley scored eight of his 15 points during a 17-6 run in the second half as the Monks (2-2) pulled away from the Eagles (1-2) in Standish.
St. Joseph’s led 46-40 before Foley started the decisive surge with two free throws and then added two 3-pointers.
John Paul Frazier scored 18 points and Drew Shea chipped in with 15 for the Monks.
Jeremy Maronta paced Husson with 19 points.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 95, MAINE MARITIME 93: The Nor’easters (2-3) erased a 25-point deficit in the final 15 minutes of regulation and beat the Mariners (1-3) in double overtime in Biddeford.
UNE scored the final 10 points of regulation, tying the game on a 3-pointer by Bryan Winston, who led the Nor’easters with 24 points. Ray Evans finished with 22 and Adrian Torres had 20.
Carter Rubin led Maine Maritime with 26 points.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
PROVIDENCE 5, MAINE 1: Sara Hjalmarsson scored four goals as the Friars (12-4-1, 9-3-1) beat the Black Bears (8-9, 6-6) in Providence, Rhode Island.
Ida Press also scored for Providence, while Sandra Abstreiter had 21 saves.
Lilli Welcke scored and Anna Larose had 38 saves for Maine.
SOUTHERN MAINE 5, PLYMOUTH STATE 1: Five players scored and Haley McKim stopped 24 shots for the Huskies (4-4, 4-2 ) in a win over the Panthers (1-3) in Gorham.
Olivia Stewart and Isabella Colarusso-Sprang scored in the first period, Madelyn McLeish had the only goal of the second period, and Madison Chagnon and Maddy Young added third-period goals for the Huskies.
Chantelle Ross scored and Amelia Julian made 26 saves for the Panthers.
WILLIAMS 3, BOWDOIN 1: The Ephs (2-1) got third-period goals from Maddie Tix and Ellia Chiang to beat the Polar Bears (1-1) in Brunswick.
Bowdoin’s Gia Massari tied the game in the second period, assisted by Kathryn Kester and Elsa Cassidy.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 3, SALVE REGINA 1: McKenna Remillard scored a pair of first-period goals and Delanie Corcoran stopped 30 shots as the visiting Nor’easter (5-2, 4-2 CCC) downed the Hawks (2-4, 0-4) in Biddeford.
Samantha McKenzie scored in the final minute for UNE.
MEN’S HOCKEY
SKIDMORE 6, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: The Thoroughbreds (6-2-1, 2-1-1 NEHC) got goals from six players in a win over the Huskies (1-6, 1-5) in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Curtis Judd scored both goals for USM.
COLBY 5, WILLIAMS 2: Nick Stapleton scored the go-ahead goal with 6:25 left in the second period, and the Mules (2-0) beat the Ephs (0-2) in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
Michael McEachern, Jack Sullivan, Ryan Doolin and Alex Bourhas each chipped in with a goal.
BOWDOIN 4, MIDDLEBURY 3: Gabe Shipper scored one goal in all three periods, leading the Polar Bears (2-0) over the Panthers (0-2) in Middlebury, V.t.
Bobby Pearl added a power-play goal for Bowdoin. Alex Kozic made 30 saves in net.
Chris Garbe, Andrej Hromic and Jin Lee each scored a goal for Middlebury. Jake Horoho turned away 33 shots.
SALVE REGINA 6, U. OF NEW ENGLAND 4: Logan Calder and Mitch Walinski both scored in the final 1:15 of regulation to lift the Seahawks (4-1-1, 4-1-1 CCC) over the Nor’easters (4-2-0, 4-2-0) in Middletown, Rhode Island.
Calder finished with a hat trick and Walinski had two goals. Johnny Mulera had one goal for Salve Regina and Kohl Reddy made 21 saves.
Collin Heinold, Alex Sheehy, Anthony Sciucco and Daniel Winslow each had a goal for UNE. Billy Girard racked up 35 saves.
