A 16-year-old from Oakland died in an ATV crash in Belgrade on Friday night, according to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. J. Chris Read said in a news release that the teenager was driving the 1995 Polaris ATV on Manchester Road around 11:43 p.m. Witnesses told police he passed two cars on the left “at a high rate of speed” and then lost control of the ATV near the intersection of Wings Mills and Manchester roads. They said he thrown from the ATV, which continued straight.
Read said it appears the teenager was not wearing a helmet, and first responders who arrived at the scene were unable to save him.
The sheriff’s office did not name the teenager in the news release and said crash is still under investigation.
