Emergency fuel assistance
With record-high fuel prices, it’s likely that many local residents could use help keeping their homes warm this winter season.
The First Congregational Church’s Emergency Fuel Assistance Fund is available to any New Gloucester household, according to interim Pastor Kelli Whitman. Residents may request fuel support from the church once per year per address by calling Whitman at 926-3260. She also encourages people to apply to the Maine Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
A spaghetti dinner fundraiser hosted by the New Gloucester GOP on Nov. 5 raised more than $13,000 for the Fuel Assistance Fund. Other fundraisers are forthcoming. Donors may contribute directly by sending a check to the First Congregational Church of New Gloucester with “Fuel Assistance” written on the memo line. Winter Adaptations nature walk

Master Naturalist Karen Herold will lead “Winter Adaptations,” part of the Get Out! Nature Walk, at Big Falls Preserve at the far end of Woodman Road from 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23. The event is free and happens rain, snow or shine.
Participants should be mindful of the weather, and dress accordingly. Bring appropriate gear, snacks and a water bottle. The curriculum is targeted at adults and engaged youths older than 6. Because the purpose is nature observation, participants are asked to refrain from bringing their dogs.

Christmas tree lighting
The annual Christmas Tree Lighting of “Tiny Timber” will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, in front of Town Hall, Route 231. The event will feature the Gray-New Gloucester High School chorus, refreshments, and open houses at the public library and History Barn.
New toys and gifts will be collected for distribution by the GNG Caring Community.
Special town meeting
Municipal officers will hold a special town meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, on warrant articles that include partial funding of a replacement ambulance for the Fire-Rescue Department and spending $572,544 from the undesignated fund balance for the paving/chip seal plan.
The meeting will be held at the Memorial School Gym at 86 Intervale Road, with voter check-in beginning at 6:30 p.m.
If you want to attend the meeting and are not registered, bring a photo ID and an official document (check stub, bank statement, insurance bill, etc.) for proof of residency and you may register that evening.
