It was a blue wave – with a splash of red – in Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport for the Maine House and Senate this election season.
Joe Rafferty, the incumbent Democrat for Maine Senate District 34, sailed past Republican challenger Bradley Scott Ducharme 12, 559-9,037 in unofficial totals. The district includes Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, Berwick, North Berwick, and Wells. Both candidates are Kennebunk residents.
In Senate District 32 – an open seat this election season with Sen. Susan Deschambault termed out – former Maine House Rep., Democrat Henry Ingwersen, of Arundel, bested Republican David Corbett of Lyman 9,652-7,209. The district includes Arundel, Biddeford, Dayton, Hollis, and Lyman.
In House District 135 – an open seat with Rep. Chris Babbidge termed out- Democrat Daniel Sayre sailed past Republican challenger Jared Hirschfield 3,518-1,864 for the district, part of Kennebunk.
In House District 134, Democrat incumbent Traci Gere bested Republican challenger Elizabeth Jordan, both of Kennebunkport, in the district that includes a slice of Biddeford, a slice of Kennebunk and all of Kennebunkport, earning a total of 3,249 votes to Jordan’s 1,917.
And in House District 140, which includes Arundel, Dayton and part of Lyman, incumbent Republican Wayne Parry was re-elected. Democrat Kirstan Watson withdrew Sept. 19, after the deadline for her name to be removed from the ballot had passed – and she received votes in two of the three communities. Parry, the sole Republican elected in the area, earned 2,954 votes. Unofficial totals show 1,193 people cast ballots for Watson.
